Alfaiate (in portuguese ‘tailor’ and ‘water strider’, common name for the animal Gerris lacustris) was the work I developed independently for the artistic residence FIGAC, held in a Higher School of Education for one week.

My work consisted in examining the school’s premises for objects that had been ‘touched’ or ‘transformed’ by students and eventualy tossed out. I made a selection of retrieved objects so as to explore in them alternatives for their intrinsic aesthetic value, by separating all use-related aspects from the objects. This was done by facing some upside down, some others were the result of tearing a previously existing object apart, meerly exposing one of its parts, etc.

This work was presented in two parts: the object collection and two videos related to this process.
