MIXTAPE #4 (2.20.12) - MALTA [DOWNLOAD]
MALTA curates the fourth mixtape by Zoom Lens. Light struggles, peering into the darkness. Air breathes through and slices your face. A cold and psychedelic journey both blissful and shattering. Although MALTA’s mixtape appears to shine brightly with it’s meditative and airy synths, tribal like rhythmic patterns and melodic vocal sampling, the outcome is something far darker than perceived.

MIXTAPE #3 (1.21.12) - MEISHI SMILE [DOWNLOAD]
MEISHI SMILE is an electronic project influenced by Japanese Pop consisting of one producer and one girl. They draw inspiration from nostalgic and childlike memories. This brief mixtape represents one side of MEISHI SMILE focusing on solo production efforts foraying into VGM-esque compositions and remixes from video game and anime that alter the mood of their original sources.
1. 서울- I wanted to disappear somewhere by myself into an unknown place and appreciate the solitude of my own company. Sometimes that is all you ever need.
2. SMILES + TEARS (萌え PUNK RAWK RMX.)- Next to music, NINTENDO has always been what has inspired me as a person. I don't play video games too often, but they remind me of a time as a child where I felt infinitely alone, but happy in being so. MOTHER is about the acknowledgment of the past, present and future. That to live in each moment is just as equally important, but to also be able to recognize that simplicity is key in a modern world full of sterile technology and false love.
This was the first remix I made and the first time I played it was at the first (and so far, only) full Zoom Lens show. It was Kyle's (Smoke Room) first time visiting and we played a house party with my friends Cosmodelion and Malta and Thought Tempo. By the time Thought Tempo went on, the house was packed to the brim. Absolutely no breathing space or a place to move. I guess a bunch of people pissed on the lawn. The cops got called on us and everything was shut down. It was one of the most memorable nights of my life. I was really drunk and just shouting during my set the whole time, jokingly raising my middle finger whenever I twisted a knob or pressed a button and kept yelling "fuck" a lot, but everyone enjoyed themselves it was a real party with the most enjoyable people. It was really one of those moments that while it may have not meant anything to the world, it meant the world to us. It was the first time a lot of us met and came together because of our music and this song sort of fits that memory and the moment. I'm sorry we can't have parties there anymore, Hoshiki.
3. LMBWY (FUCK REAL LIFE ANIME IS REAL LIFE RMX.)- Humanity can always be found in the creations of human beings. Anime will teach you things about yourself. Fuck off.
4. ZZZ (LULLABYE RMX.)- 神は死んだ
5. AJS- I wrote this song for a girl. There are no lyrics, there don't have to be. Only infatuation inspires such a dark feeling. Real love doesn't hurt so bad.

MIXTAPE #2 (12.10.11) - SMOKE ROOM [DOWNLOAD]
Smoke Room continues to warp a modern aesthetic into his very own unique brand of music. Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 during this past year have already proven Kyle Y.'s continuing growth in his foray into beat making, a transformative experience where beats go beyond static, pulsing rhythms, but flow as compositions, as songs. Not something to hear in the back of a club amongst uncaring drunken nightlife or leaving the listener yearning for a voice to be heard lazily flowing throughout. Kyle's beats stand out as something far more emotive.

1-6. I don't really have much to say about the songs I made. All of them are exclusive to this mix except for "99 Rhymes" which will be on Lackflow Intolerant's first mixtape and "Antique Heart" which will be on my next album being released next year sometime.
7. "Crawing State" - Sun Dawei
Only song to my knowledge this individual has done. Reminds me of being in a city, but a city I've never been to.
8. "The Burning Plain (With Yukihiro Takashi)" - Towa Tei
This song has good memories for me. I saw Towa Tei last summer along with Yellow Magic Orchestra and Cibo Matto. I hoped this song would be performed since both Towa Tei and Yellow Magic Orchestra (Takahashi is in YMO) were part of the concert, but that didn't happen. It was still a fun night, regardless. My friends and I met DJ Lance Rock that night, too.
9. "Splendor" - Freddie Joachim
This song and artist is really what got me into instrumental hip hop. I am forever in your debt, Mr. Joachim.

A seamless hand-selected group of melancholy K-Pop songs. Entitled “Island of Love (Jeju),” we are reminded of the carefree days of Summer. With the warmth and childlike feeling of those days being replaced by the cold, unforgiving Winter, the stark clouds that hover over us that instill the altogether fleeting feeling of the year and the inevitable transition into a new one… it’s hard to remember those Summer days and how they were. Music places you back to anywhere you wish to be, so into this beginning stretch of Winter, let’s remember Summer one more time.
