The Salton Sea is labeled an 'ecological disaster'. It was not a disaster to begin with. Growing population, and unregulated, greed-driven development of San Diego and Los Angeles and the diversion of the Colorado River run-off from Salton Sea to those cities, are the real disaster. In order to selfishly survive, they have pushed their nature of destruction unto an area that, though accidental in it's creation, is now a major wildlife sanctuary. Reportedly, being that Salton Sea is one of the few remaining wetlands in California, 50% of California's bird species winter there, with reports of birds from further distances and areas, which were long out of sight. (At least 400 bird species have been spotted at the Salton Sea!)

The Sea has restored populations of the brown Pelican...
