Narrative mapping of the post-election protests in Tehran, Iran. (current as of 26 December 2009 protests)
Interview by Dr.Todd Presner.
All mapped information are from Twitter feeds and YouTube videos. I am cross-referencing as many sources possible to find locations of the videos and photos. I am comparing the images to Google satellite views, to other videos/photos taken in the same area, and which mention the same location, as well as relying on people's identification in tweets and comments. For example, one video was tagged with the wrong location but it was properly identified in the comments section which I then verified by looking for the landscaping on Google Earth. The protests of 4 November were easier to map as Tweets are beginning to be more accurate in terms of mentioning local time and exact location, whereas earlier protests required extensive research on the original time and exact location of each Tweet prior to mapping.
Currently working with Professor Johanna Drucker on adding a qualitative layer of the events to the maps.
