cat's cradle

The assignment was to create a book cover for a classic novel. I chose to design a modern and visually dynamic cover for the classic satire Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.

To convey a sense of danger and surrealism found in the story, I chose to use type handmade from an element of the story, in this case the fictional substance called ice-nine that eventually leads to the end of the world. The modern, bold imagery is designed to be eye-catching, so those uninitiated to the works of Vonnegut will be encouraged to read it.
