To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour
- William Blake, from ‘Auguries of Innocence’
Imagination and emotions of nostalgia are the basis of all my work and from a young age I have been compelled to work in intricate detail. The narrative behind each work often involves memory and reactions to life experience. Each is a lengthy process of contemplation and concentration in a fragmented way with ideas and expression.
This reveals itself through a multitude of concentric circles and networks, the circles can be likened to minute cells, with the nucleus of each cell telling a story, acting as microscopic representatives for the macroscopic events that shape each of us as individuals, and as a whole.
I graduated from The Slade School of Fine Art in 2004.
Over the last few years, I have exhibited in a variety of group shows in London and Edinburgh, and recently held my first solo show in November 2012 at Artway Gallery.
Later this yr I shall be exhibiting as part of a duo, and in 2014 participating in a group show.
'London Artists Who Want to Exhibit' is a London based group for talented artists that wish to find other artists to exhibit with, and our platform is on Facebook. There is no membership fee. The idea of this group is to meet with other artists (all genres of art welcome), and collaborate to curate our own shows, and brain storm to find suitable venues to exhibit our work. Regular gatherings are held for members to meet each other and bring along their work, or images of their work for other members to view. These are informal, friendly and social occasions, with the purpose of making connections in the group; over time as members get to know each other they will find the right people for them to exhibit with and source suitable space accordingly. Artists themselves often invite other members to shows they are participating in outside of the group, and if your application is successful you will also be able to host gatherings to meet other members.
Previous social events have been held at the following London venues:
Gabriels Wharf, The British Museum, Wimbledon Art Studio's and Bridewell Theatre Bar amongst others.
Currently there are just over 70 artists in the group.
If you wish to apply to join, please submit your application to lawwte@gmail.com and include a link to your website and information about your current art practice.
