A project about the (very safe) area I lived in at the time, and people's fear of crime, and of losing their possessions. The final piece was a series of palm-sized books, which appeared with an installation featuring a screen-printed typographic net-curtain.
Twenty Six Beware of the Dog Signs was inspired by the way the constant repetition of, and gradual escalation of bad and sensationalised news in the press reflects in the repetition and escalation of a simple crime fear barometer - 'Beware of the Dog' signs.
This could be described as a homage to Ed Ruscha, and instead of silent gasoline stations I thought 26 Beware Of The Dog Signs didn't just illustrate the fear of crime, but also a snapshot in time of culture and everyday graphic design.
This is a Neighbourhood Watch Area juxtaposes photographs of curtain-twitching windows with emotive quotes from the press.
