49Pixels – Final Report
In May 2010, Justin Kozuch won the Mesh Prize, giving him an influx of $40,000 to embark on a first-of-its-kind survey of the digital media economy in Canada.
Canvassing agencies and governments, freelancers and journalists alike, the 49Pixels/Pixels to Product survey is an initial attempt at finding out how many people work in digital media; what they earn; how they got there; and where they see it going. I helped Justin promote, test and shape the survey along with a host of other people that populated the immediate 49Pixels community.
When it came time to design the final report, Justin and I figured that a straightforward PDF would be the best option. The full results are available at the back, but 17 key findings were highlighted using bold infographics to draw attention to some of the more surprising or noteworthy results of the survey.
Press coverage of the survey to date includes coverage from the National Post, CBC, Applied Arts (full disclosure: that one was me), TechVibes, the Toronto Star, Yonge St Magazine and Nat and Marie.
