MONSTERHATS
The monster hat was originally presented as a Christmas gift to my nephew Teodor. Each hat has its own expression as a result of different colour combination, different eyes and mouths. The hats are made 100 % alpaca wool and the eyes are made of light reflecting materials. The alpaca wool has several qualities specially suited for children’s wear. This wool keeps the wearer warm better than sheep’s wool and do not itch, which is important.
The idea is that the monster hat will “scare away” any car with its reflecting eyes. According to www.tryggtrafikk.no (a Norwegian council for reduction of traffic accidents) reflecting material in children’s wear is a necessity during the long and dark time of winter. Such material are to be worn at the height of a grown mans knee – at same height as the lights of a car. On a smaller person, a child, the reflecting material obviously must be placed high on the body. At the head seems to be the perfect spot, as the children often plays in the snow and low in the terrain.
So far, the monster hats are well accepted by those who have one. They are playful en contributes to make use of reflecting material a natural and joyful part of the day.
