<description>A poster I did for Maine hip hop artist Spose. He (Spose) wanted a provocative image as the focus of the poster. I did a bunch of brainstorming and the 2 main ideas i had arrived at were, 1- a person smoking a crayon and 2- Darth Vader in a Run DMC kinda style. For some reason, I felt compelled to illustrate Darth Vader w/ the classic Run DMC brimmed hat, giant gold chain necklace, and Addidas track suit style stripes down the sleeve. I thought it was clever or funny (looking at it now, not so sure it is either). But Spose didn't think it was quite the image he was looking for (and looking back i agree...i'm not convinced the illustration is that good to be honest) and suggested an image of himself w/ a skull instead of his face (ala Guns n Roses' Appetite for Destruction). Once I finished the illustration I really liked this poster much better than when it had the Vader illustration. Spose liked it much better...and really that's what I'm really looking for in the end...a happy client.

<description>This happens to be one of the bands I play in. I sing and play guitar. It's nice to be able to create a look for the way you imagine the music sounds. I wasn't really sure what direction to go w/ this until we started shooting some pictures. We found this great old business park w/ these great flat roofed buildings. They looked old yet modern at the same time. As we started shooting pictures, I thought it might be fun to have everyone 'tear open' their shirts. I imagined something coming out of our chests. As I started digging into the design of this, I began riffing on the idea of light/energy coming from our chests...sort of a tie-in to the title 'the brightside'.

Overall, I think it has a retro/modern-ish feel to it. I like the black and white and the subtle use of color on the cover (the 'energy beams')

I kept the typography simple. I really like the simpleness of Blair...and so I laid out the whole package w/ that typeface, which I think added to the subtle modernness of the package.

<description>A poster I did recently for a Libby Mitchell political rally. Libby is running for Governor of Maine.

Again, I did the illo pretty quick...even quicker than the Eek-A-Mouse illo. But overall I dig the vibe of the poster. Bright but aged. Seems modern but looks kinda worn. I tend to use a lot of paper textures in my work. Might need to try some different stuff soon.
