Benefits of Yoga

Yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years, and currently, close to 11 million Americans are enjoying its health benefits. Yoga can hardly be called a trend.

Most Westernized yoga classes focus on learning physical poses, which are called asanas. They also usually include some form of breathing technique and possibly a meditation technique as well. Some yoga classes are designed purely for relaxation. But there are styles of yoga that teach you how to move your body in new ways. Choosing one of these styles offers the greatest health benefits by enabling you to develop your flexibility, strength, and balance. (WebMD)

Testimonials

Carole, New York
Only a few sessions with Melissa relieved my chronic back pain and helped me develop better posture. By the end of the hour, not only was my body relieved of pain, but my mind was serene as well.

Mike, New York
Melissa is focused on giving you the best practice she can, always explaining the benefits of each pose. Melissa modifys poses as need be and customizes the practice for morning and night. After a morning practice with Melissa, I find myself energized and ready to take on whatever the day will bring. After a nighttime practice, I have the best, most relaxing sleep! Because of my continued practice with Melissa, my core is a lot stronger and my balance has improved immensely.

Jen, New York
Melissa is an incredible teacher! Before each practice, Melissa and I discuss what I want to work on so that each class is customized to my needs, whether it be focus on a specific body area, or a feeling I want to get out of a class. Even though I go to the gym regularly, there is nothing that can compare to one-on-one yoga. It's an amazing way to center my body and mind, which is incredibly important after a stressful week of work! I can really see a difference in my arms and core since working with Melissa!

Ariela, New York
I never liked yoga before but one class with Melissa Von Ludwig and I have been converted! Thank you, Melissa, for finally bringing peace and relaxation to my mind, and understanding the fascinating world of Yoga.

Classes
Want to have a great time in your yoga practice? Nothing is more important then choosing the correct level. Be honest with yourself. You’ll enjoy feeling masterful in class that is right for you. Common goals of private instruction include the following:

Home Practice Development
A home practice consultation includes evaluation of your personal goals, strategizing how to make your practice consistent, and a written practice plan. Melissa guides you through the practice once so you leave familiar with how to practice on your own safely and effectively. Home practice consultations are most effective when done in conjunction with group yoga classes.

Personalized Yoga Coaching
Coaching sessions include feedback on how to properly perform yoga postures and adaptations for the client's individual goals and body. Students who have attended coaching sessions report that the sessions help them make huge strides in improving their yoga practice.

Biography

Melissa von Ludwig is a Creative Vinyasa Yoga teacher. Her yogic path began in 1998 when her adventurous spirit lead her to study yoga while attending the School of Visual Arts. Here, she was introduced to asana, chanting, mediation, pranayama and shat-karma. Life has taken her in many directions from long distance cycling, soccer competitions to half and full marathons but yoga is always present, offering a much-needed spiritual balance to all the action and adventure. Her yoga practice turned serious after a mountain biking accident left a shattered wrist and doctors saying she would never practice yoga again. Melissa applied the discipline and focus she cultivated through yoga to connect with her inner strength and light, bringing about a level of healing that astounded even her doctors. Melissa graduated from The Center for Yoga Studies at Sonic Yoga under the guidance of Lauren Hanna and Johanna Aldrich. Everyday Melissa is inspired by her teachers and works to give back what she receives.
