His letter about how the Pomodoro time management system can be used by artists to "boost productivity" made me laugh and led to the thought that the principles involved have probably been used in different guises for thousands of years! I went up in 1969 and graduated in 1972 with joint honours in French and History. The course included an initial Foundation Year which cantered around the sum of human knowledge. It is a wonder I completed the course as, in truth, I was more interested in drawing and playing squash. Somehow I graduated and in my subsequent career discovered that I had learnt something useful after all - mainly confidence in my ability to think for myself and communicate ideas, as well as a place on the CIvil Service squash team! These are not particular good drawings and have value more in what they depict and the memories evoked. The campus was built around Keele Hall. This is where I recall some mind numbing philosophy tutorials in a darkened room in the depths of winter. The first essay I wrote at Keele had the title "Does anthropological evidence suggest that moral standards are relative?" It was a long time after I left Keele that I came to properly understand the question!
