or
About how I was first confused, then aware, and as I was longing for more, I finally decided to BE

Multiple visual cycles created out of painted patterns that simulate the structure of Genesis in a build up from the creation of light, of the waters and the sky, the earth and all creatures, to the beautiful human being…sister, mother and child. Being a poetic experiment RE-CREATION is a timid try to discover and understand the fascinating beauty of life.
An invisible character speaks from the voices of the past. An efemeral force engages him in the discovery of his true self. Memories of the past shaping landscapes of beauty. All held together and completed by the vibrating soundscape of worlds.

RE-CREATION portrays a visual journey in the quest of finding love; pure and simple love, unconditional and undefined. A never-ending poem on the search for a soul mate striped down to a few spoken verses.

A beautiful discovery of nature reveals one of its most glorious creations, the human being.

Infinite portraits of loved ones. Reduced to one. Reoccurring in my memories and dreams.
Knitted together in the frame of the most natural cycle of life, creation itself.

A daring attempt to expand the possibilities of the moving image, giving a new dimension to the flat canvas (a collection of 7 designs created by a textile design artist), with emphasis on texture and movement, resulting in visual images that simulate the creation of the world, the creation of life from a universal character’s point of view, lost in his search for freedom.

Inspired out of today’s reality this is a visual metaphor to human life within nature. An attempt to stylize raw reality from past and present times into a visceral emotional experience.

Recycled archive images find their place within a new format in a continuous flow of what reality has, does and will look like, seemingly from a personal point of view proposing an extension to a rather generalized point of view.
In a suffocating world of concrete and metal structures I wish to look at our connection to nature, its influence and restrictions.

One world. One illusion. One reality on a loop.
The feeling of entrapment in a continuous, repeated cycle torn inside out and outside in.

Construct - Two Moments in Beauty
2007, Experimental, 6 min.

An artist collaboration, exploring the human tendency of systemizing in order to understand and/or control the world. The film is a result of conversations about the destructive and reconstructive effects we encounter, privately and in history, when trying to apply our ideas about the world upon the reality of it.
The process is a dynamic dialogue between sound and image. In the final installation there are three different soundscapes by three different artists from different parts of the world, each one adding their own meaning to the repeated images by Swedish filmmaker Maja Borg.
The idea is to filmically systemise our tendency to create system, and since this is a contradictory task, the artists work from simplified timeline, focusing on the points of beauty found in this process.

Description of the sound track:

The soundtrack I have created is an almost spontaneous reaction to the visuals in terms of structure and pattern. It is composed from raw nature-like sounds combined with abstract futuristic sounds to emphasize the gap between the physical and the metaphysical world. In the process I ended up recycling and reorganizing the initial structures of those sounds and mixed them with raw recordings of individual instruments (cello, horns, cymbals and bells – performed by two artist friends, Amy Réne and Paul Kennard) to create a sustained background soundscape.

The text I added into it is extracted from a book I have found in a library in Edinburgh and rescued it from being thrown away. To my surprise this was a Romanian book about a Romanian artist, Corneliu Baba, a portraitist, a painter of man, attracted by the fleeting aspects of things and beings, by hollow impressions and by dissolution. The introduction to his work of art is written by a famous modern Romanian literary and art critic Tudor Vianu. I found his descriptions of some of Corneliu Baba's paintings extremely beautiful and descriptive, bringing back some of the most beautiful memories of my childhood, and therefore I thought fitting to use two of them as virtual paintings in my futuristic soundscape, bringing the old and the new together.

As an individual and aspiring artist I do not tend to systematize. I think about myself to be a visceral artist. I act from the gut feeling. My aim was not strictly to deconstruct the structure I could sense in the visuals but merely to create two new moments in beauty by restructuring two old ones.

As a child I have always been fascinated by the realms of imagination. Now I am developing skills that can help me design experiences which enhance our imagination and help us brake the boundaries of reality. Over the years I have discovered my own truth in the magic of performance, the power of suggestion through sound design and the beauty of symbolism within the moving image and various techniques of projection. Being inspired by poetry, music, painting, nature, absurd theatre, Commedia del Arte and physical theatre, I always question the ways of experiencing happiness and beauty through my work.

Director of CHAIRS, a filmplay
ISCREAMA experiences

“It's this simple. I loved working with Teodora! In particular her creativity in exploration and commitment to spontaneity established a reassuringly secure base line from which to develop work and investigate interesting, sometimes challenging choices. I highly recommend Teo as an intelligent and creative innovator with a great capacity to make things happen.” July 16, 2011

- Robert Williamson, Actor for Screen and Stage

“With an unsurmountable energy, Teo as an upcoming film director has shared with me a new approach to involving crew and cast in the storytelling elements of film. I look forward to seeing more of her work as it progresses under her unique direction. She is an inspiration.” May 26, 2011

- Willem van Heemstra, Owner, van Heemstra Pictures

“I highly recommend Teodora as a talented and original filmmaker whose innovative approach to directing is grounded in hard work and thorough interrogation of her ideas. Her enthusiasm for her work is infectious and she is able to inspire and lead a strong crew including very good professionals to collaborate with her. Her technical abilities are excellent - ranging from camera, to picture and sound editing and she is a loyal and dedicated collaborator on others' work too- bringing creativity and vision to it.” May 29, 2011

- Emma Davie, Tutor & Head of Department, Edinburgh College of Art

“My experience of teaching Teo is that she is an exceptionally creative, ambitious and intellectually enquiring artist, not to mention one who also possesses unusually strong interpersonal and organisational skills. It has been a pleasure to work with her over the past 4 years at Edinburgh College of Art.” May 27, 2011

- Jonathan Murray, Lecturer in Film & Visual Culture, Edinburgh College of Art

Chairs is a film-theater project inspired from an absurd play by Eugene Ionesco.
In its original form it is a story about alienation, hope, fear, self-reflection, human interrelationships, life and its absurdity, death and its acceptance: 'a farce of life'.

Avoiding a literal adaptation, in a rather personal interpretation of the original play, combined with a series of collective improvisation workshops with the heads of departments, our own story has shaped around a central Character, a MAN, which, having lived for nothing, finds himself suspended in Here, where he must figure out what he has died for in order to find rest.
As an added reflection to his struggle, a series of other characters appear that play the role of the good and bad forces on his path, as they question and confront the Man but also give him a sense of safety.

As a metaphor, the story tries to recreate a journey through the experience of death as a fulfilling moment of truth in result of a life long experience, and such through the struggle that anticipates this final resignation of the human.
