The bags appear as small neat handbags - the perfect accessories, but can also expanded to a larger bag, for shopping or for your fancy jacket for the evening. The bags are made of secondhand clothes, and elements from these clothes are used in a humorous way. In this collection I have thought of movement, pockets and storage and use of technical fabrics to create a sporty image. Together with sport and recreation, origami has been an inspiration in my design when developing the collection. Basically I draw inspiration from the idea that a two-dimensional piece of paper can be wrapped and turned into a three-dimensional sculpture. This reminded me of the European women's role today. They live a hectic life and have to fill many role models. In the collection I have used the arts in origami as a symbol of change reflecting the woman changing from one role to the other. The given theme vas “Light”. My contribution was awarded the second price. In my interpretation of light I connected variations in moods following contrasts in the day with clothing. In life there will be ups and downs. To describe this one may use expressions like “There are light at the end of the tunnel”, “I see the light in the dark” “a light broke in upon me” or “I got a bright idea”. The word light is often used to describe a change for the better. Like others, I will dress according to the way I feel. When miserable I don’t want to be noticed, but prefer to blend in. Then neutral colours are the obvious choice. It is, however, difficult to predict what the day will bring. Hence my wish is to give the wearer an option to change the garment to something more joyful. And perhaps tribute to lightening up the day for somebody else. The option to change an garment, is enhanced by different ways to button the garment, revealing new colours and contrasts. Dress codes may give away social status. This collection is inspired from traditional scarification in some African tribes, where pattern of scars symbolizes social status and achievements. Fascinated by the contrast between these symbols of status and the symbols of status surrounding us in the western world, I have used the pretty scarification patterns as a décor in the powerdressing for the modern women. Loosely fitted garments in soft fabric are often considered to be comfortable. In this design I use the word comfort to describe a psychological quality for the user – an understanding between the user of the garment and the garment. Multitasking is women’s wear with several styling options. Origami is an inspiration for the shapes and used as a symbol of versatility both for the clothing and for the career woman, for whom I’m designing. I have worked with different materials in order to make the right volumes and shape of the garments.
