MOUNTAIN GENIUS (Network Presentation)

About 6 years ago I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting this group of fella's on a personal trip to a beautiful rural Civil War town in West Virginia. I was searching for a short subject for a documentary and the Appalachian winds seemed to blow them my way.

I made the short film and fell in love with them in the process. They are some of the smartest, funniest, most honest and loyal folk you can know. And they are endlessly entertaining. They are a family and I knew they would make great television.

6+ years, a few film festivals, lots of pitches and plenty of rejection later, the winds of the Holler brought us back together.

In December 2011, Country Music Television (CMT), a Viacom Network, decided they'd like us to make a series about these boys. And they paid for us to go back to W. Va. to shoot what they called a "proof of concept" pilot. They wanted 20 minutes to prove that they are as engaging, talented and lovable as we know they are.
This here is the result of that shoot.

We hope this story continues on. Its in the network's hands now. We just want the opportunity to spend more time with these fellas. So our fingers are crossed.

MR. SMITH

The challenge of making a short personal documentary about someone you don't know, is significant. Add the ingredients 'rockstar' and 'celebrity' into the mix and the challenge grows. With so much footage to choose from, public and private, the choices in how you tell the story are overwhelming. With 50 interviews and hours of shot and 'found' footage, the real mission for me was to mine the truth about Chad and his extraordinary life without falling into the obvious traps of rock idolatry. Well...there's some of that too!

PANTENE: Eva Mendez

Celebrity. Beauty. Hair. Like peas in a pod. I was invited to shoot Eva Mendez and Naomi Watts on the set of an enormous celebrity commercial campaign for Pantene. The challenge: to disappear.

Behind the scenes shooting is a skill in itself, and an acquired one. You learn quickly from your mistakes.

This isn't the finished spot but something I quickly put together from some of my dailies for the agency.

Bank of America: Fantasy

For BBDO and Organic we shot this 23 film campaign for Bank of America Corporation to introduce some of the newest in banking technology to the streets of New York.

It helped to have with us Daily Show correspondent and comedian Mo Rocca to help warm up the crowd. It was very cold.

Shot on Panasonic HDX-900.

The Launch: A Trip to Jupiter

A celebration of technology and human ingenuity. One of the most amazing events to witness in person. We have had the great privilege to per into the work of the many scientists who made this mission possible. This film is meant to capture just a small part of the enormous journey they have set out on.

A mixture of footage we shot and some beautiful photography given to us directly from NASA.

This is Juno Mission Launch.

A Family Doc: Izzy Mark

The first opportunity I had to make a film for a girl was this film for Izzie Mark. As a man and a parent of a young boy, I was really interested in capturing the intelligence, humor and energy of a 12 year old girl and her friends. Izzy Mark was the perfect subject. Her story told itself, I just had to turn on the camera and hold on.

"Family Docs" present their own set of challenges that are altogether different from the every day agency driven project. Meeting those challenges and the added benefit of peeking into the lives of a wonderful family for a special moment in time, has made this one of the more enjoyable experiences of my career.</description>

A Family Doc: Andrew Zucker

When I learned The Zucker Family was interested in me to make a film for their son Andrew's Bar Mitzvah event, I knew I was being presented with a unique challenge. Both Jeff and Caryn Zucker are extremely well respected executives in the television industry. I knew their standards would be extremely high and I knew their taste would be impeccable.

But once I met their family, I understood that all I needed to do was let the camera roll and let them be the generous, loving and funny family they were. And the rest would take care of itself.

CLINIQUE

I was asked by Clinique to shoot a test....in 24 hours. They were considering me for some work and wasn't seeing what they needed to see on my reel though they liked my work. They needed to see "beauty on white". So in less than a day I had rounded up some friends and shot and edited this little piece.

Shot on Canon 5D Mark ii.

Nick Cannon: Get Schooled

Nick Cannon is is the busiest man in show business. Besides being the beaux of a very famous pop star, his television obligations are exhausting to even list. Here he took the time to give back a little by taking part in a VIACOM and Bill &#38; Melinda Gates initiative called "Get Schooled".

On August 5th, 2011 NASA will send a spacecraft called Juno, on a 400 million mile road trip...to Jupiter.

Shot on Canon 5D Mark ii.
