The entire entire was updated by refinishing the wood cabinets and flooring, along with painting the wood trim throughout. Walls were given and fresh coat of paint, and some even taken down to open up the space. New lighting fixtures were added, along with updating fixtures and hardware. The home owner wished to keep most of her furniture, and only purchase a few key pieces and accessories. The house now has a sophisticated and timeless feel which the homeowner loves now, and will also attract buyers in the future. With just a few thousand dollars, and some elbow grease, three rooms were completely transformed. One main focus was to design a space for pictures, collectables and sentimental items. Floor to ceiling custom built bookshelves were the perfect solution. To create a big impact, most of the money was strategically spent on key items, leaving existing furniture to be reused. With a little paint, some new accents and accessories, the furniture was given a whole new life. As a finishing touch, crown moulding tops off all three rooms. With the help of just one carpenter, I was able to complete this renovation in a mere two weeks. We were able to show the client that with a fairly small budget, and minimal architectural changes, guestrooms can be completely transformed to feel more expensive and sophisticated. Project is currently on hold. New faux wood tiles were installed, accented by custom area rugs. Patterned wood screens and frosted glass give new life to a dated glass block elevator shaft, creating a new focal point upon entering the hotel. A dark ceiling and dramatic custom lighting create an intimate and moody feel throughout the space. New furniture and pops of turquoise and orange give the lobby a funky western flare. I worked on this project along with a senior designer at Gensler. We handled everything from concept through furniture and finish selections, specifications, custom furniture design and shop drawings. Venetian plaster walls and ceilings, custom teak cabinetry, custom furniture, exquisite stone tile and counters, and custom lighting make this home warm and sophisticated. Given it's unique architectural condition, these guestrooms needed to be a variation on the Westin standard. In a room with high ceilings and extra long bays, a custom headboard creates drama as a main focal point in the room. Rich woods, contrasting finishes, and dark, dramatic colors lend a sophisticated touch to this business hotel. While at Gensler, I worked as lead designer for guest spaces in this hotel. This was a Gensler project, and all work was completed through the firm. Shore Hotel was designed so each and every room has it's own ocean view. To maximize the sunlight flooding in the rooms, a large window is all that separates the sleeping area from the bathroom. Privacy is possible though a motorized shade, discretely hidden in a recess in the ceiling. Compact casegoods are designed to maintain an open feel in the tight space, while striped carpet helps to emphasize the length. The focal point of the room is a large graphic wall, used as a unique branding element for the property. The project started out as a Travelodge, and through the client's desire to standout in the market, evolved into a budget conscious boutique hotel. Due to the unique architecture of the building, this hotel ended up with over fifty room types. I worked as lead designer through concept, schematics, FFE design, specification and documentation.
