realisation of the world around me, one which encompassed myself and my art collectively. A system in which I could both record and evaluate the way in which I work and exist when emerged in the process of art making; an evolution of myself growing, developing, learning and experiencing art as it happens. The works produced vary from digital to analogue, usually juxtaposing the two. The work is an almost surreal experience, beginning with how I made it to the different mediums in which I reproduced it; a loop of the many dimensions I myself as an artist psychologically and physically pass. The main theme which I wanted to show was that of the anonymity of Armenian tales. There is a constant remoteness of place, time, space, and also the tellers of the tales. By stripping down collaged imagery which worked on symbolisms found in Armenian tales, I have removed its obvious meanings, leaving behind outlines of the tales. These were then overlapped to create complex images in order to keep the embedded details and importance that such tales have on the culture and their traditions. A series of older developmental painting used created during research are also shown below. Sleep Paralysis http://cargocollective.com/shahane/Sleep-Paralysis http://cargocollective.com/shahane/following/shahane/Sleep-Paralysis Sat, 19 Jan 2013 07:33:22 +0000 Shahane Hakobyan 4800737 A series of images representing my own personal experience of the phenomenon, the internal struggles, the psychological strains, and the horrifying ghostly presences which roam around the time of sleep. A second series of photographs are taken using models who resemble myself, touching upon a theory by anthropologist Michael Winkelman. Winkelman suggests that we are predisposed to see human like spirits because our minds are accustomed to perceiving the world as having qualities like ourselves. Thus the terror and fear of being trapped inside our own bodies is only explained to ourselves, in our own minds, as that of a Stranger, an outside figure, in most cases a spirit. The main part of this project was to create a publication which would summarize key points and facts about different physiological and scientific findings on the subject. The end of the publication is based on a more personal record of the experiences as well as a series of imagery created from an attempt to elongate such experiences through the process of meditation.
