This painting started out as a rather tight representational study of two birds in flight rendered in black and white. I ended up going back into it with an unresolved and uncontrollable urge, which brought about an intense palette of color and an idea. The incredible design that emerged was one that I hadn't expected. Using soft pastels, I created passages of flowing vibrant color using the wing span of the birds. The top part of the composition and main focal point is a white chested bird with a small sun. Incorporating the blue from the wings below, I move the viewer down to the bottom part of the painting. The darker, more menacing area below is a kind of dichotomy, a higher spirit opposing a demonic creature. A heaven and hell if you will. A celestial spirit evoking a higher power, presents itself in this magical piece. It was on exhibit in the historical National Arts Club in NYC for the Pastel Society of America.

This painting "The Bride of Frankenstein", was a piece I did for a movie poster that was done on spec. Using the head of the monster as played by Boris Karloff as the dominant piece in this composition, I use greens, cool blues and darks to enhance and create the look and feel of horror. Moving down towards the bottom area, I put the figure of Dracula, played by Bela Lugosi on stairs, tilting them on an angle causing tension and interest. His hand holds a tall candle, casting it's light and intimidating shadows upon his pale face and cape to create suspense and fear. From here I lead your eye over to the figure of the bride. A glowing cool, blue white mystifying gown, is enhanced by the feeling of a thunderous electricity, emerging from within. The original Frankenstein, Dracula and Werewolf films were perhaps without a doubt, some of the best horror films ever made as I remembered them as a child. Painted in pastel on paper.

One of the last great living blues guitarist. He is one of the founding fathers influencing practically everyone from Eric Clapton to the Rolling Stones. As for myself as a guitarist, he was and still is a major influence on my playing. I painted this portrait in pastel using a paper with a medium value blue tone from Canson. A man who lived his life through the hard times by working in the cotton fields, to taking his story to the stage and telling it through the blues, is simply inspiring. His warm smile and inviting presense is what I felt and perceived about this legend and hope comes across in this painting. Painted in soft subtle tones, it brings both a calmness and ease about it. Lucille, BB's loving guitar, prominently stands out as the main point of interest. Reflections of blue and red spot lights come streaking down from the background falling onto his shoulders. My choice of colors ranged in an array of blues, greens, reds and earth tones. They all are enhanced with the beauty of a line layed down very loosely of grayish white and yellow. An award from the Salmagundi Club in NYC was presented for it's excellence and was also on exhibit at the Pastel Society of America here in the historical National Arts Club in NYC. This piece was first noticed by RCA/BMG records which brought about a major record album cover commission to my studio.

Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Part of the infamous Rat Pack. Commissioned as a double portrait and executed in charcoal on paper, this image of two legends comes to life with the style and personality that only they can bring. Using the cigarette as the main point of interest, I created a veil of smoke that dances gracefully across the canvas. The soft focus towards the bottom of the image along with the hazy swirls of smoke, bring about a nostalgia and a remembrance of a time past of these two great entertainers.

The glimmer twins and referred to as the greatest rock & roll band in the world the Rolling Stones. Both with enormous presence and character to display, this double portrait was a labor of love for me to do. The larger than life image of Mick Jagger, along with the notorious riff master and heartbeat of the Rolling Stones Keith Richards, show and capture their strong respect and admiration they share for each other, both as songwriters and also for their love for the blues. In this double portrait, I use a spot light in the upper right corner as a sort of backdrop for a theatrical type of lighting effect. The dark background brings both faces to the foreground with fierce intensity. As the rays from the spotlight lead you down to Mick and then onto Keith's hardened weathered face, I end with jewel like diamonds of lights along his shoulders and scarf.

My daughter. What can I say. I love her. She's my world. Ever since she was a young girl, she's had this sensitive artistic quality about her, with a passion and a love of life that inspires me still to this day. She is a very creative person and brings a great sense of compassion to whomever she encounters in her life. This portrait drawn in pencil and charcoal on paper was when she was just about three years old. It captures a moment in time, when just the right light falling upon her face, along with her uninhibited innocence resulted in what I believe encompasses her true essence. It was on exhibit at the American Artists Professional League Inc in NYC.

Inspired in part by a film I once saw, this image is all about fantasy and eroticism. Part woman, part creature. She is masked and adorns a crown of sparkling jewels. Flashes of color, streaks of light and massive colorful wings take her on her journey as she glides through the night. It sizzles. Painted in acrylic on canvas.

What attracted me to painting this architectural subject, as it did when I was a young boy, was the tunnel effect and echo it gave me. Standing under this historical structure which supports the #7 line, it always seemed to fascinate me. It stretches for blocks, leaving certain points along the way for entering and exiting the subway stations. Upon composing this painting, I left a larger area towards the top part, to give the viewer a sense of it's size and what it would feel like standing underneath this enormous structure. Through each arch like separation, the light just poured in, leaving beautiful streaks and patterns on the wet pavement. A sole man walking with an umbrella, a few parked cars and garbage left in the foreground add to this desolate rainy Sunday afternoon.

If I had to pick a period in time to have lived, it probably would have been in western times. In breaking down the composition for this piece, I started by placing the sun above and to the left of my subject, moving your eye down to the main large piece...his hat. The large brimmed cowboy hat as a major design element, ties the composition together. The extreme intense look in his eye, along with shadows placed upon his face, beard and flowing hair, give him his weathered and well traveled look. A streak of lightning or a flash of white light lead you off the canvas and windy terrain. Painted in acrylic on canvas.

The sun was setting as I saw it in my mind. A beautiful sunset. Golden and bright, with flashes of light reflecting across the dark blue sea. The sky becomes brilliant and takes on a kind of majestic quality, as I brush in violet, cobalt blue, golden yellows, cadmium orange and red tones. There is a calmness but mystery about its presence. It was how I saw it. Painted in acrylic on canvas.
