Equally, the beard has possessed negative connotations and from the streets of Rome to the corridors of the modern office a clean-shaven face was and has become the mark of the cultured, conformist member of civilized society. What does your beard define you as? Radical? Philosopher? Hipster? Woodsman? Or just a member of the great unwashed? Whatever ones philosophical denotation science has proven that the beard, unique to men as a secondary sexual characteristic, makes its wearer more sexually attractive to the opposite sex. We’ve been responsible for the entire development of the concept, material and lectures, design, packaging and everything around and in between. But these truths are superficial, a fragment of the whole. To fully understand an object it is necessary to transcend the refracted light of the exterior and glimpse that which is contained within. Peter’s Lundström’s Projections for Tomorrow do just that. Like the illusory Light Art of Dan Flavin he creates an alternate reality through light manipulation: A complete cube reveals inner corners otherwise unseen, while the vacant space of an open cube becomes a whole and seemingly tangible form. They are projections of an alternate truth.
