UPDATE February 15, 2012!

Hey there, Seamster Extraordinaire!

We're excited to announce that hot on the heels of the first two 101 One-Yard Wonders, a follow-up volume is already in the works!

We invite you to contribute to our THIRD book in the One-Yard Wonders book series - 101 One-Yard LITTLE Wonders!

Inspired by the success of the first two books in the series, One-Yard Little Wonders will be chock full of projects for readers to make for the children in their lives, from the tiniest of tots on up to a trying tween.

It is the rare sewist who doesn’t have children to sew for, whether they are one's own children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, or those of good friends. What a perfect way to use up a yard of that beloved fabric by creating a unique keepsake for a special child in your life!

Possible chapters include the project categories:

Clothing for Infants
Clothing for Toddler Girls & Boys
Clothing for Tweens
On the Go
Accessories
Games
Plush Animals
Make-Believe
Nursery
Furniture/Home
For Mom and Dad

... but please don't be restricted by these suggestions - let your imagination run wild! Anything you can think of that a child might enjoy (or something to make mom and dad's life easier!), made from one yard of fabric or less, we'd *love* to hear about it!

As with the previous two 101 One-Yard Wonders books, we're focusing on projects that take no more than one yard of fabric to complete. Ideally your project should use nearly the full yard of fabric (no quarter yard projects please, unless they are part of a group project which takes up a full yard).

By all means, please feel free to add trims such as zippers, Velcro, buttons, interfacing -- whatever additional stash stuff & notions might be necessary to complete the project. We only ask that your project uses one--and only one--yard of a single fabric.

We invite you to contribute your original designs - the possibilities are limitless! We can't wait to see all the different ways you can think of to clothe, accessorize, and amuse your children!

The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2012. Projects will be considered as we receive them, so try to get them in sooner rather than later. The only stipulation is that your original designs may not have been previously published in a book or anthology. Email notifications will be sent by May 15, 2012 with detailed next steps.

If you would like to participate, please be sure to fill out the on-line submission form.

Along with your completed submission form, please also email good-quality photos of your completed project, or sketches of your proposed project, along with step-by-step instructions (Word .doc format required). Please include any necessary instruction illustrations (rough sketches are fine) and send to oneyardwonders(at)gmail(dot)com no later than April 15, 2012. Be sure to include your full name and preferred email address with your emailed submission (this will help us link up your email with your project submission).

Please note, it is NOT necessary to send a completed project at this time.

Please note that we must receive both a completed submission form as well as a separate project email (with photos and instructions) in order to consider your project in this book.

You are welcome to submit multiple projects - as many as you want, but please do so in separate submission forms AND separate emails.

If your design is selected for inclusion in One-Yard Little Wonders:

We will either request your actual, original sample from the photos you submitted, or you will be provided with the editors' choice of fabric in order to produce a new sample. In either case, your submitted sample will be photographed for the book and kept for a book tour and possible trunk shows. Please note that if your project is accepted for inclusion in the book, your sample will not be returned.
You will also receive a consent form and letter of agreement asking for the one-time right to publish YOUR pattern in One-Yard Little Wonders.
Upon book release (tentatively scheduled for Fall 2013/Winter 2014), we are pleased to be able to offer compensation for your project - you will be paid for your submission.
In the published book, you will receive full credit, along with your bio, information about your business, and a link to your website.
You will also receive a complimentary copy of the published book (please note, in our experience, these are typically mailed from the publisher after the book has been released).

Remember, the submission deadline is April 15, 2012.

We're hoping very much that you will want to be part of the One-Yard Little Wonders book, and look forward to hearing from you!

With best wishes,

Patricia Hoskins, Editor, One-Yard Wonders
Rebecca Yaker, Editor, One-Yard Wonders
Deborah Balmuth, Senior Acquisitions Editor, Storey Publishing

P.S. Please pass along this invitation to other designing friends who may want to join in - the more the merrier!! If you'd like to post the submission on your blog, we'd be even more grateful!

101 Sewing Projects Using Cottons, Knits, Voiles, Corduroy, Fleece, Flannel, Home Dec, Oilcloth, Wool, and Beyond

The authors of One-Yard Wonders are back with another all-new collection of 101 sewing projects contributed by designers and sewing bloggers across North America. This time, the projects are organized by fabric type -- from home dec to knits, wool to flannels, corduroy to cottons, you’ll learn how to make the most of each fabric’s unique characteristics. And since each project uses just a single yard of fabric, it’s easy and affordable to experiment with something you’ve never tried before. Waterproof coated cottons are perfect for a gym bag, knit jersey whips up quickly into a ruffle scarf or sassy dress, corduroy makes a sturdy tote, and lightweight cotton voile is just right for a little girl’s smocked sundress. Each project comes with step-by-step illustrated instructions and a complete cutting layout, and all required pattern pieces are included.

“This is perfect for us since we’re often so smitten with a fabric that we buy a small amount of it just in case we think of something to use it for.” --Apartment Therapy

“A quirky and hip sewing book.” --Library Journal
