I thought the simple shapes would work well for my piece, as it was a emulation of my relationship with maths at school, most of the time it was slightly recognisable parts, that didn't seem to fit, and very occasionally they would come together and I could understand them, but usually momentarily, and then I would be lost again in a soup of symbols. I decided to look at squatting and use of empty buildings, as I live in Stokes Croft and there are a lot of empty buildings, some of which are occupied some of which are empty. I wanted to look at who was using them, and what they were being used for. During my filming, the Stokes Croft Riots happened, but this was only a small part of what I was trying to get across. I wanted to talk to all people involved in whatever way, with using the buildings, rather than just asking the locals, as anyone in Bristol will know opinion is very divided in the area.
