The brief asked for wordpress. We need wordpress. Its extendable, its free, we can network our posts together. You may choose others. But export the end product to wordpress. Thank you (and sorry).

Who owns student work?
Excellent article over at designobserver.com

...if its to much of an issue am i right in thinking they could be given the option to produce work but we wont use it if they want all rights, and those that are happy could sign to say they are happy for us to use it??

The Client
Sometimes the client is not fully aware of what they want. Its your job to make it easier for them. Assess the problem clearly. The answer may not lie in the media outputted. This can often fog our thinking. It is what needs to be communicated. Content is King.

Business
In basic business terms, the 80:20 rule translates as ‘80% of your income comes from 20% of your clients’, and has always seemed a pretty good rule of thumb – we’ll often be beavering away on 20 interesting projects but only a handful of them will pay really well.

"Winky Dink And You" was a CBS television children's show that aired from 1953 to 1957.

Muppets

The Muppets are rapidly becoming socially savvy, and the result is one burnt muppet.

First they stormed YouTube with the Muppet rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody in 1080p. Then they followed that up with an iPhone app and more videos, most of which have become viral sensations.

In addition to featuring an AR cover, where Robert Downey Jr. introduces you to the issue (and throws in a pitch for his upcoming movie Sherlock Holmes), there are several pieces of bonus content that can be accessed and controlled on Esquire’s website by downloading an app and pointing the AR marker at your webcam.

So, for example, in one of the magazine’s fashion features, tilting your magazine in different directions controls the weather, and the model adjusts clothing appropriately. There’s also a time-based joke – check out the AR component after midnight and the content is different than what you find during the day.

Resource
It also hosts a huge resource for ideas concepts or visual/textual research. Here.

Design is a hugely fertile field of inventive new work, as well as a key component underpinning the modern economy. It provides a means for understanding the contemporary world, and, potentially, for making it a better place.

Mission Statement
The Design Museum’s mission is to celebrate, entertain, and inform.

Professional Practise
Every professional practise operates in a state of schizophrenia, in a situation full of inescapable contradictions Jan Van Toorn

What are the roles of the designer (or design communicator)?

Leave School, Back to School, Student, Factory Worker, Artist, Unemployed, Factory Worker, Painter, Printer, Designer, Unemployed, Freelance Designer, Facilitator, Student, E-Commerce, Demonstrator, Designer, Trainer, Web Designer, Student, Artist, Blogger, Consultant, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Facilitator, Researcher, Facilitator, Collaborator.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Three questions

1. We may all be studying different disciplines. Where are the commonalities?

2. What impact does the Designer have on our lives; and our future society and culture?

3. Who is your work for?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Graduation
I rested a lot and gathered my thoughts to see what direction i needed to take next. I gave myself time to reevaluate my portfolio and tailored it to show the right work to my prospective employers. Kooch Chung YCN

Employment
As if learning to be a designer was'nt hard enough, we then have to find employment. Business gurus tell us the job is dead. Finding employment has become harder then ever. Yet designers are better equipped to deal with the new world than most. Adrian Shaugnessey

Career
When i think of "career" as a photographer, im not thinking of a deskjob, more of a responsibility to yourself to make sure that when you're ready to present a body of work, you don't short-change yourself. Charlotte Cotton

The brief

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/1307/256511/neg.jpg" width="493" height="701" width_o="493" height_o="701" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/1307/256511/neg_o.jpg" data-mid="1131053" border="0" align="left"/>

Briefs can be verbal, they can be written, and sometimes they are neither. I've had clients - usually long-standing clients - who've sent me a photograph and some text and said "Poster by Friday, thanks." Adrian Shaughnessy.

A brief isn't just a brief, its a piece of communication from a human being with thoughts and prejudices, fears and concerns, and its only by dealing with the human being that we can squeeze out its real essence. Adrian Shaughnessy.

Client
The way designers present ideas is as important as the ideas themselves. When a good idea is being rejected, it is often the presentation of that idea that is being rejected, and not the idea itself....Spoken communication therefore is a vital component of the modern designer's kitbag. But there is a communication skill even more important than being able to talk convincingly about your work: listening. I'm talking about the acknowledgement that communication is a two-way street, and that your client has a point of view that you need to listen to carefully for clues and unspoken messages. Adrian Shaugnessy
