The identity plays with the idea of the three levels within the building, the tea rooms/exhibition space on the ground floor, the studios on the second and workshops on the third via the use of colour.

Variety of Typography

The Type House is an imaginary space which features a exhibition space, a shop and a cafe, all of which is typographical.

I created the identity of each individual element (shop, show etc) which then lead me to design a full A-Z custom to the Type House which I then took and applied it to a variety of products and elements within the environment.

Above is the logo and below is the identity of each individual element.

After I applied my identity and typeface to example products etc that would feature in the Type House, I felt all my ideas needed bringing together summing up, so I designed a small proposal book to demonstrate it all.

I created this A3 poster which demonstrates the custom A-Z.

I took a lot of inspiration from the style of letterforms seen in old signage, so I decided for my signage inside the environment I would hand paint onto big wooden boards to stay in keeping with my inspiration.

I applied individual letterforms from the A-Z to products that would be used in the cafe and sold in the shop.

This an example of the typographic food that would be sold in the cafe.

Here are some examples of the kind of products you would be able to buy in the shop.

A Wise Old Owl is an old traditional poem which I chose to illustrate using mainly handrawn typography. It is demonstrated in a small book, that mainly uses three colours and features a hand stitched spine that enhances the handmade feel.

This was my response to the brief set by ISTD-Not Just Fleurons that asked for an outcome which celebrated plants.

I chose to typographically interpret a selection of traditional cottage garden plants by depicting their appropriate aesthetics and applying them to a letterform.

The letterforms feature an accompanying description, which details how the plants have been interpreted into the different parts of the letter. They have also been categorised into sections to allow for an easier understanding of the required elements needed for a traditional cottage garden. Based on a principle of the cottage garden, that 'tall plants go at the back and small ones at the front', the letterforms are presented in an order which relates to this principle.

In order to aid the reader's understanding, I designed a type anatomy which appears at the back of the book that details the typographic terms used within the descriptions of each letterform. Also detailed in the back are the names of all the typefaces which influenced the letterforms for each plant, as well as the designer and the date.

I gained an ISTD pass for this project.

From the Ground Up is a presentation of photographs of typographical inspiration captured on my travels in and around both Nottingham and London. Placement of photographs on the page plays with the eye level in which the inspiration was seen at the time. This idea is also suggested in the title of the newspaper. It forms part of the typographic collection of work Girls Like Type Too.

Forming part of the Girls Like Type Too typographic collection, this was an experimental part to the project which came from a combination love for typography and chocolate. The chocolates within the box can be arranged to spell Girls Like Type Too. Also featured within the box is a small leaflet which details the typefaces used for each individual letterform.

The idea and the name for this project came from a poster I saw up in uni which read 'when typographers were men and women were grateful'. It sparked off the idea to produce a project based on my obsession with typography as girl. I have always had a huge interest in typography since I first began studying graphic design and I wanted to produce a collection of work which celebrated this.

This project includes a logo which I hand drew and aims to be fun and girly, the logo poster as seen here, a box of typographic chocolates, a newspaper, a series of quote posters and badges.
