I chose to typographically interpret a selection of traditional cottage garden plants by depicting their appropriate aesthetics and applying them to a letterform. The letterforms feature an accompanying description, which details how the plants have been interpreted into the different parts of the letter. They have also been categorised into sections to allow for an easier understanding of the required elements needed for a traditional cottage garden. Based on a principle of the cottage garden, that 'tall plants go at the back and small ones at the front', the letterforms are presented in an order which relates to this principle. In order to aid the reader's understanding, I designed a type anatomy which appears at the back of the book that details the typographic terms used within the descriptions of each letterform. Also detailed in the back are the names of all the typefaces which influenced the letterforms for each plant, as well as the designer and the date. It sparked off the idea to produce a project based on my obsession with typography as girl. I have always had a huge interest in typography since I first began studying graphic design and I wanted to produce a collection of work which celebrated this.
