Oakland, CA. Sound art by Rob Peterson.

Cosmo looks at the intimate relationship between humans and trees and the spiritual presence of trees. They are seen as connectors of heaven and earth and the focus of shamanic ritual. Trees shelter and protect us and have been turned into shrines.

The installation is made of found timber and connects the floor with the ceiling. It is built around a skylight. Daylight illuminates the inside of the installation which can be entered like a hollow tree. Crystal-like growths made of colored broken glass cover the inside and reflect light like stained glass windows of a chapel. On the outside apples are suspended in tights resembling low hanging branches or offerings of fruit.

Alex Wolkowicz is a Polish/German photographer and artist resident in Liverpool/UK and Bonn/Germany.

MY FAVORITE RAPPER has been organized in an attempt to identify and celebrate artists who feel that hip hop culture has made an impact on their current practice, however profound or minute that impact might be. The result is a multi-media exhibition that encompasses many different aspects of hip hop music and its’ associated branches of influence, and while many of the responses are light-hearted and fun, there are underlying themes that may be examined upon closer inspection of the media. This exhibition seeks to serve as a microcosm of hip hop itself, an oft-maligned, but equally celebrated American creation that, by the nature of its’ obsession with self image, seems to constantly and consistently exist in a state of identity crisis.

Hermonie Only was born in 1985 and grew up in Orange County, California. Only moved to Baltimore in 2003 to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art where her love of deconstructionist literary theory was fostered, influencing her approach to art-making. Only's current work investigates ideas about balance and form with aspects of Platonic geometry and the hermetic sciences.
"My work operates in the realm between the abstract and concrete. I want to create an arena which these forces are met and the ensuing conflict becomes the principle of the work."
The work in SOME WHAT addresses themes of collapse, fracture, and volume, while gesturing toward an abstracted vision of the apocalypse.

Summer Residents, Sam Weinberg & Sophia Pousson
“Finding Friendship” is a collaboration between emerging artists Sam Weinberg and Sophia Pousson, now on exhibition at the LoBot Gallery in
Oakland, CA. The artwork combines Pousson’s effervescent paintings with Weinberg’s interactive sculptures, made out of recycled wood and
salvaged materials found throughout West Oakland and at Berkeley’s Urban Ore. Their work inspires joyful interaction and evokes a play-world of imaginary friendship.

At the heart of both their art practices is an emphasis on positivity and alternative community building. For the vibrant, sculptural work
now on display at the LoBot Gallery, Weinberg completed the construction and Pousson finished the pieces by brightly painting the
surface of each sculpture, creating creatures influenced by the forms and suggesting to the visitor a method of interaction.

Weinberg and Pousson are graduates of the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. They relocated to Oakland, CA for the Young
Artist in Residence Program at LoBot, which is designed for artists working in any media who are establishing their professional careers.
Weinberg also works as the first art teacher of the North Oakland Community Charter School.
