The goal of this project was to repackage a product from a dollar store and improve the packaging without additional production cost. I chose to repackage hangers and made the packaging itself into something useful as well.

Personal project.
Direct mail design for The Cultch.

The task was to design a postcard to promote an upcoming performance, On the Ice of Labrador, for The Cultch (Vancouver East Culture Centre). The goal was to make it eye-catching and stand out from all other promotional mails that the target audience would possibly receive.

Karacters project.

The Globe is one of the projects I worked on during my internship at Karacters Design. My task was to design the second issue of The Globe for the client’s new projects based on the layout in the first issue designed by Dan O’Leary, Senior Designer at Karacters. I also added new layouts to meet the client’s needs. The project was supervised by Tim Hoffpauir and managed by Dylan Ballentine.

Catalogue redesign and marketing material design for KostKlip Manufacturing Ltd.

KostKlip is a local company that manufacture plastic display tags used in retail stores. The task was to create a visual identity that would communicate the message, what’s your shelf edge strategy? The idea for the concept came from one of the products, ShelfTalkers, which are plastic tags with signs of special messages along the shelves. This is taken visually into the graphic elements — to initiate a conversation with the target audience.

Print campaign for Cheater Buster Private Investigator.
School project for advertising class.

The challenge was to create a series of print ads with three pre-determined photographs for a client (in my case, a private investigation company) and develop a strategy. My strategy is to exaggerate the insincerity of “cheaters” by creating unrealistic stories to pair with the dramatic images. The emphasis on insincerity is also reinforced through the typographic treatment for the stories, which is to simulate the situation when someone is telling a lie.

Branding for Hubert Kang Photography.
DVD case is letterpress printed. Stickers are stamped by hand.

Hubert Kang is a fine art documentary photographer who has also worked on many advertising projects. Hubert’s photos are raw — they convey real emotions that connect viewers and tell powerful stories. The design concept focuses on the rawness and the personality of Hubert’s work, which are reflected in the packaging material and the logo itself.

Barber is a typeface I designed, using FontStruct, for my typography class. I love vintage signage, so I wanted to incorporate some old-school elements into my type design. Barber's pole was one of my initial ideas, and the diagonal lines turned out to work well in the letterforms. It is meant to be a display type that works particularly well in very large sizes.
