Shiva draws from the jewish tradition for mourning, in which all mirrors in the house of the mourned are covered for seven days, so as to permit family and friends to enter into a period of grieving and reflection without finding distraction in how their physical appearance may reflect sadness, loss, anger or despair. XVI Festival del Centro Histórico Guatemala City 2008 ..... Múltiples espejos hallados en restaurantes, tiendas y escuelas en el Centro de la ciudad de Guatemala fueron cubiertos con manta blanca. De esta manera, se le sugirió a peatones a evitar ver su reflejo por siete días. Shivá utiliza como referencia la tradición judía del luto, previo al entierro, durante la cual se cubren por siete días todos los espejos de la casa del muerto, para permitir al enlutado a entrar en un período de lamento y reflección sin hallar distracción en su apariencia física y como ésta pueda revelar tristeza, enojo o sentido de pérdida.
