Katie Miller is a great photographer, and a personal friend. She needed a logo that would be easily recognizable with a symbol and a letterform, with the assumption that when enough recognition was achieved, the letterform would be dropped and the symbol could work on it’s own. The result is a bold striking logo that is almost as iconic as the pictures she takes.

This was the first live album by NY-Based Worship Leader James Christian “JC” Mejia. 100% of the profit from the sales of this album went to support a missionary named “Octavio Marquez” deep in Central Africa. The plan was to create a simple, clean cover sleeve, printed on recycled paper, that people would feel easily familiar with. The final product ended up almost a little too “posh” for the content itself, but the CDs sold like wildfire and the signature 3 squares are now a signature trademark of James Christian Music.

Bloom Floral is a prestigious floral arrangement company out of San Diego that handles most of the major seasonal floral arrangements for the big department and fashion stores like Nordstrom. They needed a new mark that would be equally as clean and brisk as the brands they were arranging for. The end product is a flexible identity that uses the simple lotus motif across an array of colors.

Website, Mission One Eleven, Mission 1:11

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE iMac.jpg" width="601" height="468" width_o="601" height_o="468" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE iMac_o.jpg" data-mid="8986361" border="0" align="left"/>

Here, I worked with World Wide Web Services to design and develop a new website for "Mission 1:11 (now "Mission One Eleven"). The website basically needed to do a couple of things. 1, give legitimacy to the organization, so that when people research them online, they feel safe signing up. 2. Provide a hub for people to download the online application. 3. Provide a hub for people to learn more about what the organization does, why they do it, and donate to support the organization should they feel compelled. And 4, to give some visuals from prior trips so that people can get an idea of what it's like. Obviously, you can't really know what it's like in a developing country until you go there- I know because I went with this last team to Ethiopia in Fall of 2011. It was a little hard to try to sell all the adventure and danger involved to get people to sign up, without diluting the message.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_1.jpg" width="670" height="268" width_o="750" height_o="300" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_1_o.jpg" data-mid="9008167" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_2.jpg" width="670" height="268" width_o="750" height_o="300" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_2_o.jpg" data-mid="9008169" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_3.jpg" width="670" height="268" width_o="750" height_o="300" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_3_o.jpg" data-mid="9008170" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_4.jpg" width="670" height="268" width_o="750" height_o="300" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/MOE_CU_4_o.jpg" data-mid="9008171" border="0" align="left"/>

We ended up choosing this sherberty-red gradient as a focal point of the website and some of the banner designs, as opposed to doing the typical greens and browns and dark grays, trying to simulate the jungle. The aesthetics of the site needed to be clean and crisp, but with an element of texture. So, the larger portion of the site communicates legitimacy and well-organized structure, while the little details of texture and gloss bring those elements of adventure back in.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/Disciples.jpg" width="670" height="256" width_o="997" height_o="382" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/Disciples_o.jpg" data-mid="9008179" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/Live Your Bible.jpg" width="670" height="256" width_o="997" height_o="382" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/Live Your Bible_o.jpg" data-mid="9008181" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/Too Far.jpg" width="670" height="256" width_o="997" height_o="382" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137117/1818001/Too Far_o.jpg" data-mid="9008183" border="0" align="left"/>

The slider is the focal point of the site; it's the biggest, loudest, most central thing you see right when you click on the site. This needed to be the primary means of telling viewers "What are you?" Because it can get confusing with "Organizations" and "Ministries," I really wanted to prevent the thought "well, what the heck do you actually do" from coming across users minds. To solve this I created several simple typography designs, meshed in with pictures and video screen-shots from the last trip. This way, when people click on the page, right away they get it. They see the classic, iconic African jungly imagery, but the quips in the images clarify why we're there in the first place.
