Memory:

The history of the cities are made of collages and overlays that overhang the condition of a landscape composed of fragments. We understand the "ruin" as a privileged witness to the formation of the city at a time. In this sense, the new building, relies minimally, ensuring that the two realities (old and new) coexist and continue to reveal the history of the city. In the urban landscape of Porto, roofs play an active role and is one of the key elements present. Topographical character of the city, is translated in geometric shapes.

The element that gives shape to the idea, will be the roof. Reinvented as a modern parent, the roof is supported as a bird in ruin. The tourism issue became part of a new ambition: that of climbing to a high point to see the city from the top. In most cities there are architectural landmarks that let you enjoy the privileged status of height. The tourist information becomes viewpoint. Town planning, the building reclassified all space below the roof, and proposing a public vertical connection between existing streets that are at very different levels.

Memory:

The project developed a custom cake is made in the course Academic Projects IX, during the 2008-2009 academic year, in line Architecture and Inventions, Department of ETSAB projects. We commissioned a film school in the plot that is at the head of the ancient North Station in Barcelona, between the station and bridge at Sardenya street. It was a specific request in a specific place, from the outset, we said we could also work with the environment of the plot. We are encouraged by both working with the place, with the topography changing the existing infrastructure such as bridges, constructing the underground, parks ... This clarification on the wording of the year, in my view, was clearly intended to avoid the phenomenon so prolific in the area of "birth" of foreign objects, just perched on the field as if they were bought at a mall New York, and brought from there to decorate the city hall. We should not forget the environment, but this was to be the beginning of our intentions, and the end of our proposals.

The premise of working with the place, was made compulsory for me, once I started to re-know the place through visits, drawings and small studies. We are in an undefined places of Barcelona. This is a great void in the heart of the city that produces a major disruption of the activity of Barcelona. There is no street section, there is no activity, therefore, no city. however if there are large buildings, large-scale facilities are as planets floating in a black hole.

After this critical reflection, I consider as a starting point that the main players are not buildings as objects, but the users. The main purpose is therefore creating a city. Soon I begin to understand that the building should be defined in some way by the public. Some parameter of the users of the city should form its own school. It was a challenge to get a large-scale building as it is an option (under the influence and origin of their students) or function and citizens of the neighborhood, but stay as a new object isolated, alien to the "land where sits. " This challenge means that it was too pretentious to think that a single building, with minimal public use, would be able to get the only revive a "dead" zone along the whole story. Therefore, the project ceases to be a single building, to become a set of actions generated by the existence of some others, all linked together, and at the same time, all together allow the blood supply to the city invaded by Life is blocked area. In addition to film school, it redefines the park of the station, moved the bus station instead projects a square space and a building area multiequipamientos scale and finally is projected tb new metro station with direct access to the plaza.

The school will remain the main object of study and development. The school was born of users, the routes, both existing as of the forecasted future or who want to activate. Defined building lines, flow lines, which converge at one point and then go apart.

WITH Bruno Seve. Architect

Memory:

A place that underwent several interventions and lost the most important aspect of the identity. Rounds and vias that pass give a great sense of insecurity. No protected sites. The spot on which work was one day a house. The dividing of the house adjacent corner is witness to this past. We therefore propose a "home audience" without walls, very permeable to the public but it offers a sense of protection to citizens. Since elements of public space, the pergola and porch, it forms a volume that adapts to the adjacent dividing, leaving through trees from the inside. Like any public space, should be colonized.

NAME When rocks look at the sky
WHAT Astronomical Observatory
WHERE La Pedriza. Madrid
WHEN April 2009
FOR19 Contest PLADUR Iberian Constructive Solutions,
1st prize ETSAB Prize nominee for the Iberian
WITH Bruno Cruz. Architect

Memory:

From the beginning two important systems that should work were identified. Heaven and Earth. The first set derives from the program to be developed. The second comes from the place. In its development, the project seeks to reconcile and link the two worlds. In turn, this connection will create the main issues that the project must meet, in addition to the purely functional. Through the analysis of geological morphology, very characteristic in Yelmo spot, and the study of other observatories, formal concept combines the two systems. This is a volume that arises from the geometric abstraction of the nature of the rocks and reinterprets the act of looking at the sky. This volume will be repeated depending on the program and in order to better adapt to the environment, integrating and becoming part of it.

Having decided on the strategy, had to decide the exact point where to place it. To do this we took into account three factors: visibility, topography and orientation. We believe that the building should be seen clear from the distance, but not compete with the uniqueness of the landmark, Yelmo. We should also take into account the perspectives that were going to get from their areas - this was achieved by placing a high elevation ridge line. The topography was therefore an important factor when it comes to find us - we took a constant level line, which created a new path that is attached to the building. Finally, we look on the south side of sun exposure that was best with what we wanted to feel inside... Enter through a rock that invites us to look skyward.

NAME Coexist
WHAT Private Students
WHERE Raval. Barcelona
WHEN February 2008-June 2008
FOR Project X (subject). ETSAB.UPC. Rating: 7.5/10. Remarkable
WITH Bruno Seve. Architect

Memory:

Project for the 10th Project Course. In this course, the only premise that we had to work, was to do it in the lower half of Barcelona's Raval.
After some initial analysis and strategy together, we decided to work in a vacuum of Sant Pau dels Horts, as a place with much potential, but very poorly resolved nowadays. This is an area surrounded by equipment, new equipment will be inserted with great result. It was decided to extend the existing sports complex, along with a dorm to energize this area.. But before designing the buildings, we plan to work creating a new floor that does not interrupt the flow, keeping the dimension of the church, and creating a series of small squares hinged by the buildings.

The residence was in what we worked more. We propose a different model of coexistence. A residence designed as student flats which in turn are thought to favor the maximum contact between students. Thus, students have a single, tiny, rigid and closed room, and must be seen as the only place of privacy. In the rest of the residence there are different degrees of intimacy, but generally this is minimal, to expose students to achieve in relation between them.

NAME WORKING IN THE RIVER
WHAT Offices and Stores
WHERE Industrial Poligon ZAL. Port of Barcelona
WHEN September 2007 - Jan 08
FOR Project VII (subject). ETSAB.UPC. Rating: 9/10. Outstanding

Memory:

Project for the 7th Project Course. We were asked to built a group of offices closed to some freight warehouse, located on a plot of the ZAL (zone Barcelona).

The project aims to weaken the limit so strong between the industrial area of Zal and the old bed of the river Llobregat, which remains a wild green area of outstanding natural beauty. The river enters the building or the building in the river, but very progressive almost continuously getting a reading between building and river. I work in the River.

NAME Productive Substrate
WHAT New Micro Centralities. Urban Workshop
WHERE Habanna Center. La Habana. Cuba
WHEN October 2008-February 2009
FOR Territory and Architecture (subject). ETSAB.UPC. Rating: 8.5/10.

Memory:

Project done for the planning workshop "El territori com arquitectura". We were asked to get new small-scale centers pole, which could turn the neighborhood of Centro Habana, which is currently severely degraded physically and socially.

Centro Habana is a neighborhood with a very high density zone, so there is virtually no public space, empty space or green areas. The district has in its limits, large public spaces such as the Malecon, the Plaza of the Capitol or the Paseo del Prado, but inside there is little space around which you can create a meeting point.
The project is developed here began working on a new layer of the urban fabric not very good worked so far: the roof. All that space needed can be seen on it, and the chance of public space to have also a third dimension as with private buildings. Later they we discovered the ball fields, that were the key element to allow the relationship between the new public space with the old, green areas and domestic houses.
