		<description>Role: Lead Designer, Team Lead

Slice through image layers with your fingertip...

A user opens the app and is given a canvas of five images, or posters, stacked directly on top of one another. The user can use their fingertip to slice through the layers to create new collage-like images. This art-style is based on an artist in NY who slices through posters/ads in NY subways with a razor blade. The design strategy in the iPad app is to have an effect that is immediately fun /engaging/ pupil-dilating, for the user - the paper slice effect - that then gives way to a deeper level of engagement... the creation of art.

Postiche is an art app that lets users cut through layers of poster to create new works of their own. A strong example of my recent UI design. Please ask to see Design Documents, Wireframes and Comps as well as the test version. (The schedule and budget for the project are also available.)

Project Metaphor is a game of creative comparisons. It is currently in Beta testing as a HTML5 mobile app, but will soon be released to the Apple, Google and Windows app marketplaces.

Game Play: Everyday half of a metaphor is posted on the main page, and users contribute their creative ideas for the second half of the metaphor. Simple.

Where do I find it? On a mobile device, open mobile safari and navigate to the url: metapho.rs. Then add the app to your homescreen.

<description>Role: Research Assistant and Puzzle Consultant

The Cat and the Coup is a free documentary game in which you play the cat of Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh, the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran. It plays like a simple physics puzzle game, it looks like a storybook with artwork inspired by Persian miniatures, it features music by Nine Inch Nails, and if you give it just 15-minutes of your time, it’ll teach you the story of a really fascinating period of American and British history involving communist paranoia and a CIA-funded coup d’état.

The Neurospace/ BrainCanvas project for the Harvard Center on the Developing Child was a live website interactive to help parents understand how positive and negative environments - including sounds, sights &#38; positive or negative encouragement - can influence young childrens’ early neural development. In this interactive piece there is a very clear association between the types of audio environments that the user hears, and the types of neurons that they generate as they move and click around in the canvas.

		<description>Role: Lead Designer/ Project Director

Players drag looping animations of silhouette characters onto a slowly moving screen. The player tries to animate scenes that match rhythms and moods of the streaming classical music. I designed and pitched this project, then worked with a team of four to bring it to life. The project was commissioned by KUSC Classical Music Radio Station as part of a company-wide effort to engage a younger audience in classical music.

		<description>Role: Lead Designer/ Game Designer/ Level Creator

I was the lead designer for Yumby Toss, a full scale mobile game project, complete with 45 levels, in app purchases, connections to GameCenter and many great features. On a daily basis, I worked closely with the graphic designer, programmer, composer, and animator to create high quality assets to incorporate into the game. I also worked closely with the CEO and CTO of the company to ensure that all their production criteria were being met. I created hundreds of puzzles for the game, and conducted many playtests to ensure ease of use and a smooth difficulty curve for the experience. This was a great team to work with. The game release was accompanied by more than 20 reviews.

Chards (pronounced SH ards) is a very simple, quiet, building toy. Using simple cards and clips, anyone can create these highly unusual structures. You gain a sense of the strong and weak points in the structure, and then strategize about how to build higher. The experience is quite immersive.

The product comes in a very handy, pocket-sized tin container.

The real brilliance of Chards is economic. The cost of materials for each unit (1 painted tin, 30 cards, 15 8-coil springs, and 1 instruction pamphlet) becomes almost negligible if you produce more than 10,000 units. We are currently in negotiations with a book store chain for the sale of the first 2,000 units.

The Angry Typewriter is exactly what it sounds like. It is a very sharp, well-tuned typewriter app for your computer. It was designed for writing angry emails. (It links to your default email client on your computer.) The Angry Typewriter is so intense that it’s just pure, pupil- dilating fun. It has received over 15,000 hits online, with no marketing effort.

		<description>Role: Game Designer/ Art Director/ Project Director

The Gentlemen of the South Sandwiche Islands is a board game for two players. Both players are trying to cross bridges in such a way to rearrange the group so that they are left on a space with the lovely Lady Ashley. This game raised $9,000 on Kickstarter, sold 300 copies, appeared at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair, and was a 2010 Finalist at IndieCade in Los Angeles. As a team, we turned down a licensing deal for this very unusual item. One of the primary donors to the game was the MIT/Singapore Gambit Game lab. Gentlemen also inspired a large number of articles that can be found online. It was recently featured at the Macy Gallery at Columbia University as part of a larger show about games as art. The game is special because we created not only a game, but a 200-year history of tumult and controversy to accompany it.
