SAMSUNG BREEZE

A Hyper Island Student Proposal to Samsung

BRIEF
How can Samsung demonstrate the value of 4G mobile internet through a product or service with a focus on relationships?

SOLUTION
We created our concept around the idea that as phones have progressively become more similar to computers, developers have forgotten that they are still phones. The user experience of a phone call has remained unchanged and unimproved for years despite the massive innovations within the device itself. What if you could have seamless access to all the capabilities of your phone pushed to you without leaving the call? What if you could input data in the most natural way, a conversation with a friend, family member, or partner?

We named the service Samsung Breeze. It runs discreetly in the background picking up voice recognized meta data that link directly to a web or in-phone functions. Using semantic data relationships, it intuits the needs of the user and brings the desired information or function in real-time using the incredible 4G speeds. There is also an open API, so developers can create their own uses... the possibilities are limitless.

"There is a digital media school in Sweden called Hyper Island. This fall the students from Hyper Island teamed up with the folks in the CP+B Sweden office to spend 72 hours thinking of creative ways to use technology to foster peace in local communities. The concept is awesome and the ideas they came up with are amazing."

Gabriela Perezutti lives in New York City but her identity is deeply rooted in her Uruguayan ranching upbringing; her family lineage can be traced back over two hundred years to her native country located between Argentina and Brazil. Her style incorporates these equestrian and traditional gaucho influences and combines them with edgy elements inspired by the urban postmodern city in which she resides. Candela blends all these diverse elements into a truly unique creative direction and applies it to both ready-to-wear and shoes.

The new site takes inspiration from the brand’s rich heritage in New York and the textural and vintage details that distinguish its in-store environment. The site’s information architect and art directional styles hero the multiple collections within the brand bringing each of their identities to the fore: John Varvatos Collection, John Varvatos U.S.A. and Boys, Converse by John Varvatos and Fragrance.

A new editorial destination, Style Substance, showcases an ongoing series of profiles on men whose creativity and dedication to their work follows in the spirit of John Varvatos’ own approach to his craft. Style Substance launched with features on Pete Cashmore, Michael Chernow, comedian Anthony Jeselnik, Vincent Piazza, athlete Nick Swisher and Michael Voltaggio.

"John Varvatos has upped the ante for its e-commerce and Web site. Designed by the Wednesday agency, which has worked on Mr. Porter, Alexander McQueen and Tory Burch, the site is designed to encapsulate the brand aesthetic while providing an experience that is easy to navigate. The overall feel of the site was inspired by the company’s retail spaces such as the white brick walls in SoHo and the dark mood of the Bowery site, the company said. It features separate sections for each collection — John Varvatos Collection, John Varvatos U.S.A. and Boys, Converse by John Varvatos and Fragrances — and layouts allow the user to flip through collections on their tablets or mobile devices. To promote the Global launch of their new underwear line Push Positive, Calvin Klein partnered with Wednesday to create a digital campaign that features model Lara Stone and supports the collection of bras in a variety of interactive mediums.

We designed and developed the Push Positive experience within the Calvin Klein site, which features an explanatory section on the bra as well as guide for each cup size. Wednesday also created an interactive Facebook application that allows users to share and post personalized images, as well as rich media banners that include campaign assets such as the video, shot and produced by Saturday.

Off-line, the Calvin Klein Push Positive launch will be supported in-store with campaign visuals and an in-store iPad application, designed and developed by Wednesday as an interactive sales and information tool for associates to use with clustomers.
The interactive stations will be set up in select Calvin Klein Underwear stores worldwide.

Jacob Hägg has an eye for fashion and a skill for capturing it on film or in design in a way that creates a captivating, modern mood. After establishing his own lifestyle t-shirt brand, Brashy Couture – handling everything from t-shirt design to photography – Jacob escalated his competitive abilities at Hyper Island’s Interactive Art Director program.

"One of the world’s most innovative and digitally driven marketing schools"
- Forbes Magazine, August 20th, 2012

As a further developed Art Director, Jacob leaped across the Atlantic to glean some of Wednesday NYC’s fashion marketing expertise. Jacob has hitherto contributed design and art direction roles to campaigns from both edgy brands and fashion classics, such as Calvin Klein, Narciso Rodriguez, John Varvatos, Candela NYC, and Juicy Couture.

RECOMMENDATIONS

"We had the pleasure to have Jacob at Wedensday's NYC office. He evolved greatly during his time with us and assisted on a range of clients for example the Calvin Klein Push Positive campaign and John Varvatos. He is a quick learner and very ambitious. Erik "

Erik Torstensson
Co-Founder & Creative Director, Saturday Group, Frame Denim, Editor In Chief, Industrie Magazine

"Jacob worked with us for six months as an intern. Coming in, he had not designed digital experiences or used Photoshop in a design capacity. Three months in, he was working on client projects and creating actual deliverables that ranged from design to assisting in art direction. Jacob is a hard worker and always put in the time to make sure the work he did was perfect. Jacob is a reliable and dedicated team member. He consistently brings a positive atitude, and passion to learn and improve his craft."

Justin Edwards
Associate Creative Director, Wednesday

"It was a pleasure coaching Jacob and his group during this Hyper Island Module. Jacob is a really creative guy and was really listening to my coaching tips and came with fast and relevant replies. And the idea they presented is by far the strongest during all my years as a coach at Hyper Island"
