		<description>My Story Magazine Spread / 2012
At NewSpring our team designs a semi-quarterly publication featuring stories of people in our church. We chose to design some of the stories within a templated container and highlight others, like this one, with a specific one-off design. I decided to handletter the whole text in this case, based on the personal, diary-like tone of the article.

		<description>Fuse News Branding / 2011
For this project I designed cohesive branding for a four-page newspaper used in NewSpring's student ministry environment. The two repeated motifs I chose were overlapping shapes (seen in the type I developed for Fuse News' masthead) and hurried, emotional hand lettering.

		<description>How To Think of Ideas / 2011
This self-initiated zine is a collaboration of two brains. I did the lettering, Elliot Stokes drew the pictures, and we both arranged them on the pages. The zine, offering fifteen pages of wildly impractical advice on how to think of ideas, was laser printed on 70 lb. text weight French Construction paper in Whitewash.

On sale now for $5, +$1 shipping!

Zine proportions: 8"x5"

		<description>Sign Language Book Cover / 2010
As a design intern at Penguin Young Readers Group in New York City, I got the chance to design the cover for the 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Winner. Other solutions had left me dissatisfied, so I ended up taking a photograph of my own hands for the cover photograph, making me the designer, hand-letterer, photographer, and hand model for the project.

		<description>Coffee Packaging / 2010
As part of my senior exit show, I sought to solve the problem of designing packaging for a local coffee shop called Two Story that has begun to roast its own coffee. The label on the bag could be used for multiple varieties of coffee, and simply stamped with the appropriate label (light, medium, dark, etc.), making it ideal for a local, low-budget roaster.

		<description>Hope International Wall / 2011
I designed a wall for Hope International, an organization that gives microfinance loans to people in third-world countries to help them start businesses. I developed a narrative which illustrates the impact of such loans on communities, drew simple illustrations, and created a character system that fit the look &#38; feel of the wall.

		<description>Essay Pamphlets / 2010
As an independent study project in my last semester of design school, I decided to explore book design and the influence of design choices on a book's perceived readability and attractiveness. I took theological essays written by C.S. Lewis (which some people perceive to be dense and intimidating) and set out to design them in such a way that would make them less daunting. I employed a pamphlet binding, hand-drawn elements, and disarming colors to increase approachability and invite readers in.
