Algonquin, Mixed media installation/artist in residency, Blim Gallery, Vancouver, 2008

In December 2008 I was given a month long artist in residency position at Blim Gallery. Drawing inspiration from summers spent in oft Group of Seven subject, Algonquin park> This show examones a persoal connectio to nature and a resurgence of interest in the semiology of mysticism and connections to nature in popular culture.

This allowed me to have a solo show at the galley and produce a limited edition silk screen t shirt for the galley. As a part of the public engagement for the residence I also held a film night showing films for which I showed films from the National Film Board that were related to the show.

A series of Cyanotype prints from digital collage.
Shown at 10x10 at Gallery Atsui, 2010

An early form of photography once used to make direct imprints of nature, these cyanotypes are carry an inherent ambiguity. An older process that blends photo and print, these are further mixed by the use of google sourced images and photo collage. Nudes engaged in bohemian revelry and mushrooms, a counterculture icon, living in an obscured washed out world.

Installation of 144 Paintings for The Things We Do
Helen Eady, Marcia Pitch, Elizabeth Zvonar, Cindy Loehr and Karen Ostrom.
SFU Gallery, Vancouver, May 15-June 30, 2010

In an age rife with metaphysical confusion The Things We Do is a five-person show that settles most of the major questions that have been plaguing humanity lately. Talking and gesturing hands, erotic arms, mongrel figures and arguing animals are all on view in an effort to guide us through the errors of our collective ways. Learning from limbs and animals is not just an alternative communication reality weaving its way through these works, it’s what it’s all about. In Vancouver’s post-Olympic, triumphal moment, this exhibition is a modest, understated guide to the future evolutionary arc of the species
- Text Bill Jefferies
