Mike’s Accelerated Expansion 2 line was his most recent iteration and we were proud to be Mike’s exclusive printer for the line. Never one to sit still for long Mike has been secretly working for months on a new artist driven line called Poisons and Antidotes that will be revealed to the public on February 23rd. Poisons and Antidotes started as an experiment in vintage medicine label graphics and expanded into an exploration of the dichotomy of destructive and healing forces that we experience in our lives. These garments will address the subject through simple, classic symbols. For the occasion Mike has decided to invite some of his favorite artists to contribute their own responses to the topic, some of which will be available as tee shirts. Participating artists include Peter Ferrari, DUST, olive47, Aubrey Longley-Cook, Trek Matthews, Truett Dietz, Branden Collins, Johnny Warren, Andrew Bellury, Ashley Anderson, David Hale, Nathan Sharratt, and more. Fela was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, and pioneer of Afrobeat music as well as a political and human rights activist. Fela may have died in 1997 but his music and his legacy have lived on and recently have inspired a revival of musicians and fans revisiting his discography. In 2008 Fela! The Musical was released off Broadway and stoked the flames even higher. This Friday at 595 North in Atlanta artists like Rasadon, DJ Kemit, CaZ, African tribal drummers and dancers and others will be celebrating the Fela! phenomenon in grand fashion. Local boutique owners, fashion writers, clothing line owners, photographers and buyers are encouraged to come from 7-9pm. Jeffery Butzer will be performing his whimsical and melodic songs throughout the evening and Native Crave will be providing "more d'oeuvres" and 3 Bite Finger Foods. Sales representatives will be available to answer questions. The event is open to the general (or specific if you prefer) public at 9. So, what exactly is this "Wastage Wash"? Recycling old tee shirts, Re-using rags and scrap paper, and Reducing as much waste that comes out of our shop as possible. Fallen Arrows has always believed in doing our part to keep Atlanta as green as possible. Wastage Wash is a hip, fashion friendly way for you to participate too. The Direct to Garment printers that we use daily for Tee Shirt printing, produce a significant amount of unused ink. Flushing ink through the system helps keep the printer working smoothly, and creating great prints all the time. This ink is collected, and is useless at this point for DTG printing. In some cases this can be several liters of ink poured down a drain. Thankfully, we creative lot at Fallen Arrows had some ideas for how to repurpose this ink, and after long weeks of testing, the Wastage Wash process was born. The ink is diluted with a special mixture of water and softeners, and now we’re ready for the shirts. The shirt is first dipped, splattered, splashed, or sprayed with the Wastage Wash solution, and then left out to air dry. It is then run through a machine wash with additional softeners (extra soft = extra comfy), air dried again, stamped with our logo, and your shirt is ready for wear. All Wastage Wash tees are hand made, and each one is a unique version of one of the three available pattern options, “Splatter”, “Lilypads”, and “Original”. Each comes with a Wastage Wash button, and a Fallen Arrows Sticker. If Mother Earth wore tees we feel pretty confident she'd be wearing one of these.
