Netlife Research Office

The user-experience consultancy firm Netlife Research commissioned Eriksen Skajaa Architects to rethink their offices and create new spaces for reflection and creativity.

The challenge of low headroom and deep, dark office spaces inspired the architects to choose lightness as the basis for their concepts. These included white, natural rubber floors and a white ceiling as well as large glass walls and “Light boxes” to divide the different meeting rooms. The meeting rooms hover between the ceiling and the floor, while the black hall offers depth and solidity.

As a second concept the client was given four different “gardens” to enhance their creative working methods: The monastery garden, the park, the kitchen garden and the forest clearing; different places to relax and reflect.

The Monastery

The user-experience consultancy firm Netlife Research commissioned Eriksen Skajaa Architects to rethink their offices to create new spaces for reflection and creativity.
When faced with the challenge of how to create three spaces for silence and the occasional phone call we proposed a Monastery with a monastery garden.

The room partitioning is based on the remains of existing brick walls, while the outer walls are white pigmented birch veneer that form an enclosed box.
Some of the niches are places to put the plants of the monastery garden, while others are windows with a window sill to maintain visual contact with the office outside. One of the niches outside is even just a bench to sit and read or relax.

Saivu is a project for new gateways to Sjunkhatten National Park, a park with a special focus to facilitate children and disabled persons.

The project consists of three separate entrance areas with information boards, toilets, camp-fire places, seating, playgrounds, parking, toilets and other support program. There is also a possibility of shelters for sleeping and other activities connected to the separate sites.

Saivu is a traditional sami word for the portal to a mythical parallell world and we want the project to be that conceptual entrance to this world. The main element of the project is a construction system of wood and canvas loosely based on an interpretation of old sami signs. The construction system will give a common expression to the elements in the park while making it possible to meet the challenges of the different sites. There is a large information disk made of a metal material. This disk will contain information about the park and can also be used independently of the gateway constructions.

1st place in invited competition 2011.

This project is a collaboration with Pushak Architects and Bjørbekk & Lindheim Landscape Architects.
