The main challenge that we experienced was that the area was dense in pedestrian traffic. Whether people were crossing the street, going to the subway or scarfing down a chili cheese hot dog, there were a lot of people and they were moving fast. This led to another challenge; to make people aware of the compass on the ground and to get them to read it for at-least 3 seconds Our Design Our approach was to design a compass that was attention grabbing while keeping the to the principles of simplicity and elegance. We drew upon aspects of the traditional compass and gave it a modern look with the use of shape, layout and color. It was inspired by Columbus 'circle' and the signs of the subway trains (1, 2, 3) which are all in the shape of a circle. Columbus Circle is a neighborhood with many riches, for example the Time Warner, Trump Tower, Central Park, and of course, Fordham Lincoln Center only a few blocks away. We wanted incorporate them in our design and by using circles as our main shape layout experimented with the various colors of the MTA subway lines. Collaborative project with Lydia Orsi (Architect). The couple requested something as unique and they are and I designed the entire suite including the branding details the couple requested, such as the stickers for the cookie boxes, want-ad table lists, and the movie poster for the head table.
