Graduate Show Branding, Tickets and Poster

Working with James Brown and Liv Taylor, I successful pitched to design the branding for the University of Brighton's 2012 Graduate show. Our concept is based around a trebuchet, a visual metaphor for the graduating students launching into their careers, a celebration looking forwards.

We built the launching mechanism and array of geometric shapes (to be flung), photographed and filmed it in several vast locations. We created a custom typeface that emulated the trebuchet structure. The branding spanned across a range of printed ephemera, flyer, posters, and tickets amongst others. We also created an installation within the entrance to the show a culmination to the branding.

“His letters to me were the letters of a delighted ad enthusiastic child. He gave an account of his trivial adventure, of amazing things he had see, and of the beautiful sounds he had heard. He had met with strange birds, had startled a hare and her form, had made friends with a fierce dog, and had watched the trout darting in a stream. He sent me some of the wild flowers he had picked. They were of the commonest and most familiar kind. But they were evidently regarded by him as rare and precious specimens.”

Lithography print on paper,
297mm x 420mm

Working with two other designers, James Brown and Rosie Ashley-Lahiff, I successfully won a pitch to design a map of the galleries and art venues in Brighton. We were conscious to create a minimalistic, user friendly design that represented the collection of creative venues as a whole.

We worked with the client and printers to produce 40,000 copies that were distributed across Brighton and Hove.

Two large format digital prints 800x600mm

Twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty five days a year the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, serves the shores and seas of the British Isles. The RNLI is an independent charity and does not receive any funding from the UK government. In 2010 alone there was 8,713 launches around the UK and Ireland, which resulted in 8,313 people being rescued (of which 309 were lives saved), all of this relies on money contributed by donations.

It occurred to me that many of us, myself included know so little about the imperative and extens ive work the RNLI do. This piece of Information Design looks at each of the stations, their locations, and the ranges that their boats cover. It also gives details of the number of launches and lives saved by the courageous skilled volunteers who selflessly give their time and risk their lives to help others.
