Today I want to show you my favorite bag designer, Clare Vivier's closet. Her closet is a small room with a beautiful back yard view. It's filled with massive vintage finds, her own handmade jewelry, and art by her son Oscar and friend "Simone Shubuck" (one of my favorite artists) and more. I really loved the idea of "closet with art" and enjoyed looking at every single little piece she collected. Clare was kind enough to show us her latest bag design, you can see it in a couple of photos. - it looks amazing. We also get a peek into her work space which I found really inspiring.

Big thanks to Clare for posing in winter coats in 95 degrees!

Can you describe your style?
Hmm, a mix of vintage and new. I like to be interestingly classic, but there's always something a little off, I can't avoid it, I often need to alter things I wear to be personalized for me.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023992701_bd68a08094_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023992701_bd68a08094_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226116" border="0" align="left"/>
What is the most important thing when you design a bag?
That it is chic but simple.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023982277_f8b919f56e_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023982277_f8b919f56e_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226118" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your favorite designers/brands?
Lanvin, Phoebe Philo, Kathryn Bentley, Isabel Marant, Marni, Vanessa Bruno

What are your favorite shops?
Luxe De Ville on Sunset, Steven Alan, Le Bon Marché, APC, Merci, Comptoir des Cotonniers

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023995167_5c09559af9_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023995167_5c09559af9_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226121" border="0" align="left"/>

Describe your typical day?
Wake at 7 make breakfast and get Oscar ready for school, take him to school, hike Runyon Canyon, come home to work, work, work, until I go get Oscar from school, come home and work more 'til dinner time, put Oscar to bed and work some more. (most days)

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5024786375_d72b210280_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5024786375_d72b210280_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226125" border="0" align="left"/>
What's something you wouldn't be caught dead wearing?
hmm, so many things, but there was a moment of absolute dread when "belly T's" were supposedly making a comeback.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023989151_37e263379d_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023989151_37e263379d_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226129" border="0" align="left"/>
You go to France often. Are there places that you check out every time you visit?
I do. It's boring, but I have my favorite shops and I have to go to them (mentioned above) also I always end up at Jardin du Palais Royal, and Cafe Charlot in the Marais.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023995885_d0aa02d430_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5023995885_d0aa02d430_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226131" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have any items you've been eyeing for fall?
I wanted a leather skirt and I just got one. But I'd also love a leather jacket and some ankle pants and I haven't gotten some shoes in a while.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5024742429_91d23b44fb_z.jpg" width="640" height="426" width_o="640" height_o="426" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882614/5024742429_91d23b44fb_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226136" border="0" align="left"/>
What other bag designers do you admire and wear?
I don't wear many other designers' bags these days - unless it's something vintage. I have a vintage Bottega that I like a lot. I admire the classic French lines for their ability to make an absolute perfect stitch and I really like Lanvin's bags right now. I adore American heritage lines, like J.W. Hulme. And I also admire Vanessa Bruno for her perseverance and her style.

Who are your style icons?
Heather Taylor, Deb Kaplan, Simone Shubuck, Emmanuelle Alt, Charlotte Gainsbourg

Can you give advice to new designers who want to start their own lines?
Don't let self-doubt get you down, just put one foot in front of the other. It's what I try to do everyday.

I went back and shot her closet too and I'm so glad I did.

I thought I was pretty good at thrift shopping before I saw Joanna's stuff. No. This lady deserves "the Queen of thrifting" title! It was so fun to go through all the pieces she's been collecting for a long time and I loved the stories behind each piece. I was also impressed by her high street brand collection as well. I would see some great contemporary stuff and ask her where she got them and her answer is "Steve Madden" or "Zara". How come I've never seen those before?! I want to go shopping/ treasure hunting with her.

Thanks to Joanna for the great interview and being patient and sweet during the long 3 hours of shooting. She's a stylish angel.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126753747_4d80b10821_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126753747_4d80b10821_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370590" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your personal style.
I would say it's a mix of bohemian and classic with a nod towards the '70s, but my mood is usually what dictates my clothing choices on any given day.

What are your favorite places to shop?
Flea markets, thrift/vintage stores, Opening Ceremony, Project No. 8, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, eBay, Creatures of Comfort, TenOverSix, Casbah Cafe's charming little shop, Scout, Zara, and J. Crew.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126757143_852432f35d_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126757143_852432f35d_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370592" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your favorite designers?
Antonio Marras for Kenzo and his ability to stick to his vision and consistently turn out beautiful, artful clothes; Rachel Comey for her pared down aesthetic that she so perfectly mixes with whimsical details; Isabel Marant for her free-spirited approach (although I must say I prefer her collections from past seasons), Phoebe Philo for capturing the fashion zeitgeist and setting the tone; Dries Van Noten for never compromising his idea of design and for his ability to take something so basic and give it a luxurious twist; and Miuccia Prada because she does whatever the hell she wants and does it well.

There are also a few accessory designers whom I admire including Sonia Boyajian, the ladies behind Anndra Neen, Peruvian designer Meche' Correa, and that genius accessories team behind Marni.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126761211_57d59ac44a_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126761211_57d59ac44a_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370593" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have any items you've been eyeing for winter?
I am pining for these Les Prairies de Paris camel-colored boots that I just saw in San Francisco. I also want some good socks. Weird, I know, but I wear a lot of socks with boots, peep-toes, wedges, etc. so I'm always looking for something fun and cozy.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126764207_5f11392df6_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126764207_5f11392df6_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370594" border="0" align="left"/>
Which fashion blogs & magazines do you read?
I don't think there's enough room to write! As far as blogs, I go through phases where I spend hours reading them and phases where I can't bare to look at one more thing online. But my regular blogs/sites that I am pretty dedicated to are: Identical Eye, Scout-Holiday, July Stars, Cafe' con Lesley, The Moment, Garance Dore', The Sartorialist, Refinery 29, Style.com, Jeana Sohn (duh), The Selby, and Dossier Journal. I read a lot of magazines but some of my favorites are: World of Interiors, Elle Decoration UK, Vogue, ANP Quarterly, Elle, Monocle, Hobo, Lula, and Purple. Oh, and Everyday Food. I love me some Martha Stewart.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126767215_4cefda8656_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126767215_4cefda8656_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370596" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you keep your old clothes or do you keep your closet small and organized?
I keep old clothes that have sentimental value, or pieces that I know I'll wear forever. My closet is small but not by choice, hence the sagging pole being weighed down by my wardrobe. I am definitely pretty organized when it comes to my clothes and accessories. Everything has a place. It's kind of funny because when I was a teenager and in my early 20's my room and closet were total disaster zones and I could never find anything because I would just throw clothes in piles on the floor. I have no idea how I came to be so organized. Now I really like to take care of my things.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126768967_3860c03b30_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126768967_3860c03b30_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370597" border="0" align="left"/>
Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
Chunky cardigans, grey knit leggings, roomy blouses, my high-waisted vintage Levi's, and ethnic dresses. I also live in my cut-offs during the summer.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126778169_260696e2bd_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126778169_260696e2bd_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370599" border="0" align="left"/>
What was your last purchase for your wardrobe?
A chunky cardigan from Zara. It's a mushroom color, comes with a hood, and has random canvas ties scattered throughout in case I want to bundle up. I am crazy with the cardigans and always searching for another great one.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126805803_b740f6f5cc_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5126805803_b740f6f5cc_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370602" border="0" align="left"/>
Can you give us smart shopping advice?
Buy what you love. I know that sounds cliche' and ridiculous, but don't buy those things that you're pondering over. You'll regret spending the money and wish you would have bought something else. Another piece of advice: don't worry about the money if you know you'll get lots of mileage out of it.

Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
I have a few, but there are two that are recent and must be talked about. One I purchased from a favorite antique shop -- a creamy champagne silk gown with a built in corset that is torn to shreds and should be in a museum. It has capped sleeves that are overlayed in crocheted webs with gold embellishments. The entire bottom also has crocheted webs with gold beading and when you walk all you see is this work of art in movement. It belonged to a Spanish princess and is from the 1940's. I paid $85 for it.

My second steal that I am not sure I will ever be able to top: a vintage black Céline shoulder bag for $1. It cost me more to have it re-polished, but it was well worth it. I bought it at an estate sale and they obviously did not know what they had. Lucky me!
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5127320888_d1e4a7c42f_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5127320888_d1e4a7c42f_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370605" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your style icons?
Frida Kahlo is my ultimate style icon. Her style was projected in everything she did, from her paintings to her photographs to her wardrobe to her attitude. She was a fearless female and her choice of color and attire always inspires me. Some other women who have style that inspires me are Liz Goldwyn, Olya Thompson, Vanessa Traina, Taylor Tomasi-Hill, and Stephanie Seymour.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5127328282_c3e833aa85_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882962/5127328282_c3e833aa85_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370607" border="0" align="left"/>
Current trend you like, current trend you dislike.
I really gravitate towards anything that I feel I can incorporate into my wardrobe and make it look fresh and interesting, regardless if it's a trend or not. All I can say is that I'm happy that I got rid of all those Coca-Cola polo shirts and swimsuits that I had in elementary school. That was definitely a bad trend and I'm cringing as I type this.

Jesse Kamm owns a clothing line called Jesse Kamm. :) She lives and works in Los angeles with her husband and 18 month old son Julien. (Someday I need to talk about their veggie garden. It's pretty awesome! )

It's so interesting to see how Jesse's style feels very opposite from Joanna's style despite the fact that both of their collections were mostly vintage. I love both! Jesse has a very selective and minimal style which totally fits her tall and lean figure. She put on all these pieces that I could never pull off (because of my short height) and everything just looked so fabulous on her. The shoot with her was a great experience for me. She used to be a professional model so she really knew how to work in front of the camera.

I kind of want to dress simple and boyish now and I think I need some Jesse Kamm pieces in my closet. : )
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148913227_a72be8d267_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148913227_a72be8d267_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237587" border="0" align="left"/>
What made you decide to start a clothing line?
After graduation from university, I moved to California and began a 5 year modeling career, where I traveled the world and saw many beautiful things and many ugly things. These years instilled in me a love for finely made clothing, photography, history, and truth. Upon my departure from that adventure, I began creating my own textiles and sewing my own dresses. The collection was a response to a demand for my one-of-a-kind pieces by friends, stylists, shop owners, etc. It was not something I set out to do, it just sort of evolved into what it is today.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148924485_cdd23481ce_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148924485_cdd23481ce_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237589" border="0" align="left"/>
What's your inspiration when you make clothes?
I am inspired by the world around me. Underpasses, the flora growing on the side of the highway, cracks in the street, a tear in a jogger's sweatshirt, the color of the sky when I open my eyes in the morning. I find a great deal of beauty in the most unlikely places.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148959519_9b4df5a228_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148959519_9b4df5a228_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237590" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your personal style.
It is ever changing. Right now I feel quite boyish. There is a gamine theme in my dress these days that has to do with my haircut. There is also this gallerist thing I am feeling... think Kim Bassinger's character Elizabeth from 9 1/2 weeks (the parts with her clothes on)... If she were to share a closet with Jack Kerouac.. that would be my current direction..
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148987643_234451a544_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148987643_234451a544_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237591" border="0" align="left"/>
What are your favorite places to shop?
My favorite shops are Ten Over Six, Mohawk General Store, Gravel and Gold San Fransisco, Wasteland san fransisco, Spartan in Austin... but, that being said...I do almost all of my shopping at the fleas.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148997025_1b285e7a23_z.jpg" width="640" height="428" width_o="640" height_o="428" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5148997025_1b285e7a23_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237592" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you keep your old clothes or do you keep your closet small and organized?
I keep my closet trimmed down to the basics of the season. I have lots of bins of past and future wardrobes. I have made the mistake of getting rid of great pieces, which I now regret. I keep it all.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5149000319_7a1cde5d9b_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5149000319_7a1cde5d9b_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237593" border="0" align="left"/>
Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
A pendelton wool blazer, a weird Kenzo oversized short sleeve button down, my rachel comey ankle boots, a norma kamali bat wing cardigan, and a shredded pair of baggy AG jeans from 8 years ago.

What was your last purchase for your wardrobe?
A blue leather SAMMA necklace from Maryam Nassir Zadeh in NY.. another great shop I failed to mention earlier

Can you give us smart shopping advice?
Buy what makes you feel great. If it is not a must, leave it on the rack for someone else.

Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
I have an amazing leather tote made by LL BEAn that I got at the rosebowl for $20. I use it everyday, and it is beautiful! I found a YSL suit for my husband Luke at a thrift store in SF for $35. That was the score of the century.

Who are your style icons?
Lou Doillon always looks hot. Charolette Rampling circa 1970's. Jessica de Ruiter is the best dressed gal in LA. Roxanne Marie. Tilda Swinton. Claire Oswalt.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5149102341_aa23dfc5a2_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5149102341_aa23dfc5a2_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237596" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have any items you've been eyeing for winter?
A pair of RL shades is all I am missing
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5149532036_fdcab90cd2_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882966/5149532036_fdcab90cd2_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237597" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your typical day?
6 or 7 am wake up call. Coffee, emails, dig in the dirt with Julien.. Trip downtown, home again. Phone calls during the beloved nap time. Look for inspiration. Organize, take a meeting. More coffee from LAMILL? Go play with Ozzy and Malcom (Julien's BFFs). Eat something pretty lame. Babe to bed, more emails, look at swatches, draw. Collapse on the couch and watch a netflix on demand with a glass of something stiff!

Closet Visit started with my good friend Heather Taylor. I thought it would be fun and sweet if I finished this first year with a visit to Heather's beautiful mother Sunday Taylor.

Sunday is inspiration to me. Beyond the fact that she is lovely and has impeccable taste I'm totally in awe of her dedication to the various charities she works with. She also recently started a beautiful lifestyle blog called "Ciao Domenica", she is a lover and supporter of art & literature and she is one of the most stylish women I know.

I had so much fun shooting Sunday on this rainy LA morning. We took advantage of the weather and got some rain shots. I think her clothes and the house feel so cozy and L.A Christmas. Happy Holidays!
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273440062_7aa57b737f_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273440062_7aa57b737f_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391822" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your personal style.
Sophisticated, chic, relaxed. I like to mix dressy and casual pieces so I look pulled together but comfortable. I love adding heels to almost everything I wear, and some statement jewelry. I have some fun necklaces by Balenciaga, Lanvin, and Annie Costello Brown, and some vintage bracelets from The Way We Wore that I wear all the time. I love to layer thin cardigans over Dries patterned sleeveless tops (they were so pretty this year) and pair with jeans if I'm going casual or leggings or black fitted pants and heels, if dressier.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273469136_c7f349ee5e_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273469136_c7f349ee5e_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391849" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your favorite designers?
Prada for very special separates; I bought a gold lace jacket two years ago that I love. Marni for dresses, they really work for me, a lot of my friends wear them. The Row makes great layering pieces like long thin sweaters and chic, simple coats and jackets. Dries for beautiful silk blouses and tops. Lanvin for a a special gown for a black tie event, dressy but never stuffy. I also love Lanvin's purses, with the charms and the bows. Speaking of purses, I love Clare Vivier's , I have several of her clutches and her new black shoulder bag with the gray ribbon embellishment. They have a chic and simple look that feels very French.
I also love the Gap and J. Crew for fun casual pieces, especially in the summer.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273490448_e77ee56e23_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273490448_e77ee56e23_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391850" border="0" align="left"/>
What are your favorite places to shop?
I mostly go to Barneys of New York.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273450386_4a5c0485bc_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273450386_4a5c0485bc_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391857" border="0" align="left"/>
Can you give us smart shopping advice?
If you like help when you shop, which I do, find a sales person you like and trust and work with them. Jennie Baek at Barneys helps me all the time and never steers me wrong. Also, go to the sales. They come so early at this point, that if you can hold out until November and December, you can get almost everything on sale.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273474552_6525b2b3c9_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273474552_6525b2b3c9_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391862" border="0" align="left"/>
Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
Now that the weather is chillier, I've been layering with two great long sweater vests that are open at the front, a gray one from Miu Miu with cute puff sleeves, and a very cozy oatmeal- colored one with a big collar that hangs over the back from Martin Margiela. People have been asking me if I knitted then myself. That's how cozy they are. They both have short sleeves so they are great layered over something. I wear them to daytime parties or holiday get togethers over a loose silk blouse with fitted pants or my Row navy leggings.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5272834391_366903edda_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5272834391_366903edda_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391877" border="0" align="left"/>
What is your most recent purchase?
A short green Prada jacket that I bought on sale at Barneys. I wear it with a navy silk blouse tucked into ankle length black pants and my Prada black pumps and it looks great for going out to a special dinner with my husband and friends.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273444156_bb494a593e_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5273444156_bb494a593e_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391881" border="0" align="left"/>
Did your daughters play dress up in your closet when they were little?
Absolutely! We had so much fun, they were very girly and into putting on shows and entertaining us. I had some some chiffon skirts that they loved to wear and of course, spinning in them and making then twirl was a favorite activity. We had a basket with dress-up clothes and they would play with it for hours on end. They also loved wearing Snow White and Alice in Wonderland costumes, as well as ballerina and ice skating outfits. I always loved the fact that their imaginative worlds were such a part of their playtime.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5274085071_1a8dd52f37_z.jpg" width="640" height="475" width_o="640" height_o="475" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5274085071_1a8dd52f37_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391905" border="0" align="left"/>
Any perfume that you like?
La Chasse Aux Papillons
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5272867087_cc388d1edb_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5272867087_cc388d1edb_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391906" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you keep your old clothes or do you keep your closet small and organized?
I try to edit and sometimes my daughter Heather will come over and help me do it. But I also hang on to special pieces and am often happy to pull them out after a few years of not wearing them. It feels like a brand new piece. I recently rediscovered a red dress by Marc Jacobs that has a burgundy velvet ribbon and bow around the waist. It feels very prim and proper in an English way, and I would love to wear it to tea at the Peninsula.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5272832003_f3afa47c7b_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/915536/5272832003_f3afa47c7b_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4391907" border="0" align="left"/>
5 things you can't live without.
Dark blue jeans, that I can wear casually or dressy
Black Prada pumps from last year, with little gold studs
Thin ribbed Prada cardigans that my niece Tracy Taylor ( US editor of Net-a-Porter) turned me on to years ago. They are great over sleeveless dresses or tops, they lay great on the clothes, just about disappear, and never make you too warm. I even wear them in the summer.
Cute striped tee shirts, worn with jeans or tucked into a high-waisted pair of silk pants with a fun necklace.
Gap cotton cropped pants with cuffs, I have then in khaki and olive green. I wear them all the time, casually with a tee shirt and ballet flats, or dressier with a nice top and heels.

I know you do a lot of great charity work and it's so inspiring. Would you share about the work you do?
I am on the "Alumni Council" of Bates College in Maine, and I travel back to Bates three times a year to help with fundraising efforts and building alumni relationships with the college.
I am on the board of UCLA's "Friends of English," a fundraising group for the UCLA English Department.
I am very involved with "St. Joseph Center," a multi-faceted facility in Venice that helps homeless and low-income individuals.
I am on the board of "Friends of Robinson Gardens," a group that supports the historic restoration and preservation of the Robinson Estate and Gardens in Beverly Hills.

Do you ever feel like you have nothing to wear?
yes. i love having a sort of uniform. it makes it so easy to get dressed every day, but then i'll get sick of wearing the same thing all the time and it'll feel like i have nothing to wear. digging around in the back of my closet usually solves this. and when in doubt, a new lipstick does wonders.

What do you love about being a film director and what's next for Claire Cottrell?
i'm an observer, and filmmaking is all about observation. the process heightens your senses. you become so aware of your surroundings, relationships, strangers on the street, sounds, cars, signs, light, everything. it opens your eyes to our incredibly rich world, and that is an amazing thing. i also love the collaborative nature of filmmaking. it's a beautiful thing to wake up every day and be working with such talented people towards the same end.

let's see, what's next... i'm working on a year long documentary with an amazing couple in santa monica. they own huckleberry, rustic canyon and a great small batch ice cream shop called sweet rose creamery. the film tells the story of a modern family business and how they've united a community around quality, sustainable food. i'm also planning a series of short films based on these cartoons about dating that a friend in brooklyn writes. hopefully, another music video or two. and, stella and i have discussed collaborating on a piece she's written!

Sunny Walker is the owner of "Painted Bird" vintage store in San Francisco and now Los Angeles. She recently moved to LA from SF to open her second Painted Bird location in Silver Lake. She hinted to me that Las Vegas is the best place to thrift! ;)
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0114.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0114_o.jpg" data-mid="9046763" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your personal style
I'm a mess. I can't really commit to any one particular style. I avoid the preppy look, like a trouser and blouse combo. It just doesn't suit me.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0222.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0222_o.jpg" data-mid="9046825" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your favorite designers?
I spend so much time thrifting, shopping for my stores, I rarely come across new designers, but I do love many old designers. I love Andrea Jovine, Albert Nipon and Norma Kamali. Nothing fancy. I love Margiela. Do I own any Margiela? Nope.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0261.jpg" width="640" height="960" width_o="640" height_o="960" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0261_o.jpg" data-mid="9046893" border="0" align="left"/>
What are your favorite places to shop (besides your shop)?

Thrift stores, flea markets and a bunch of high street shops. I like other stores that are similar to mine, like Black and Brown in San Jose and Fox and Fawn in Brooklyn.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0341.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0341_o.jpg" data-mid="9046885" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your style icons?
Kurt Cobain/Patti Smith when I'm dressing down. Lita Ford/Martin Rev when I'm dressing up. Maybe even a splash of Bowie for some color.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0126.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0126_o.jpg" data-mid="9046901" border="0" align="left"/>
Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
I wear the same things over and over again, like a uniform. I've gotta break out of that! Jeans, old soft tee shirt and these vintage motorcycle boots, which I cut into an ankle boot. Now that I'm in LA, it's shorts instead of jeans.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0146.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0146_o.jpg" data-mid="9046903" border="0" align="left"/>
What is your most recent purchase?
A cute crushed velvet Jou Jou jacket from a place I was ready to leave as soon as I got there.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0158.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0158_o.jpg" data-mid="9046906" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
So many great scores at various thrift stores. I found a long black wool/cashmere Vivienne Westwood coat for $7!
I worked at Beacon's Closet in New York for a few years and the most amazing stuff would come through. This ancient man brought in a huge rolling bin filled with treasures from the '20's. He just wanted to get rid of everything. I went home that night with an insane monkey fur coat and a Whiting and Davis chain mail purse in my arms. I don't think any of his stuff ended up on the racks because every person working that day went a little nuts!

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0178.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0178_o.jpg" data-mid="9046912" border="0" align="left"/>
Can you give us smart shopping advice?
I don't know if this is smart but I say buy what you want! You work hard and you only live once. Clothes have several lives and you can re-sell it to stores like mine.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0377.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0377_o.jpg" data-mid="9046916" border="0" align="left"/>
What's the best thing about your job?
I love curating my stores with clothes that get people smiley and happy, because it's affordable and just what they're looking for. I also love to travel and to collect amazing clothes. The search can be crazy but it's always rewarding.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0203.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0203_o.jpg" data-mid="9046922" border="0" align="left"/>
Which beauty products do you recommend?
I like the Burt's Bees blemish stick and orange oil face wash, which is great for me and I love the smell. I've also just started using dabs of olive oil on dry spots. The jury is still out on that one, but I think it's working well.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0204.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/1829514/IMG_0204_o.jpg" data-mid="9046933" border="0" align="left"/>

I asked Bo and Kathryn who they would recommend for the next Closet Visit. They both said "Pietsie!". Well,, I didn't even need to think because I trust these ladies's taste and they were right. Even before I looked at Pietsie's closet ,, I was already freaking out about her beautiful house. And then,, There was the closet! I really liked how her style was mixed. A little bit of Ethnic, a little bit of modern, a little bit of rock chic and feminine.

I know I keep saying this on every post but Pietsie is one of the nicest people I've ever met. And her lovely dog Clementine was a sweetheart. Loved hanging out with them. Thanks, Pietsie!
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169892511_33cd6dff30_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169892511_33cd6dff30_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237565" border="0" align="left"/>
What kind of graphic design work do you do?
I do mostly web and print - especially look books for my designer friends. I'm getting to do more of those and love it!
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169898709_e1b3a07178_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169898709_e1b3a07178_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237566" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your personal style.
Hodge podge, I like too many styles to settle on just one.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169919839_bcbe22ee62_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169919839_bcbe22ee62_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237567" border="0" align="left"/>
What are your favorite place to shop?
Mohawk General Store, La Garconne, A.P.C, Tavin, Pasadena City College Flea Market
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169924525_c2f439cf2f_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169924525_c2f439cf2f_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237568" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your favorite designers?
For summer, it’s A.P.C. Madras, Beatrice Valenzuela, Dosa and vintage caftans. For winter, A.P.C., Henrik Vibskov, Common Projects, Isabelle Marant Etoile, Cacharel, Soyer cashmere, and vintage. For jewelry it’s Kathryn Bentley jewelry mixed with vintage pieces from my grandmother and anything from Afghanistan or Kyrgyzstan.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169932861_1252d788c0_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5169932861_1252d788c0_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237569" border="0" align="left"/>
Current trend you like, current trend you dislike.
Is layering a current trend? I don’t really have a trend I dislike – I’m a sucker for new ideas & directions if they’re done well.

Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
A.P.C. Cotton Tunics
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5170488876_4578d9a5a4_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5170488876_4578d9a5a4_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237570" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your style icons?
My friends and my little sister - all so stylish, they inspire me to make an effort when dressing. I love Francoise Hardy’s style in the 60’s and Nina Van Pallandt in ‘The Long Goodbye’.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5170533512_1756f33ddc_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5170533512_1756f33ddc_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237571" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have any items you've been eyeing for winter?
Some loose tunic dresses from Cacharel and Henrik Vibskov

Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
When I was fifteen my older sister lived in New York and sent me a big box of her castoffs. There were some amazing labels in that box and of course I had to wear them to school, but a smelly locker in gym class isn’t the best place for a Missoni sweater dress.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5170542248_c9379c291b_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882964/5170542248_c9379c291b_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4237573" border="0" align="left"/>
Can you give us smart shopping advice?
Editing your closet is key. Every season I pull everything out and give a lot of clothes away or consign, otherwise things get too cluttered and you can’t see what you have.

What is your most recent purchase?
A pair of vintage knee-high boots.

What's your typical day like?
A morning walk to Fix coffee shop with my dog Clementine, then work, a tea break at 4 and then a proper hike with Clemmie & my friend Caitlin in Elysian park before dark. A great dinner with my husband and friends is what I look forward to, but funnily, my peak creative time is between 6pm and 3am, especially if I’m on a deadline – so then I rock the tunes and get going until my eyes get blurry and I can’t see the screen anymore.

Welcome to the third Closet Visit. I'm so excited to feature my friend Bo Carney. She owns the amazing Mohawk General Store in L.A and everyone who knows Bo will immediately understand why I've been dying to shoot her. Every time I see her, she looks so chic and I always think 'Why isn't she a stylist??'. I mean she has the perfect body and beautiful face and all, but her style is beyond incredible.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043020209_c6ef6a6bd5_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043020209_c6ef6a6bd5_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226215" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your personal style.
Boyish but feminine.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043039629_0567f80c2f_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043039629_0567f80c2f_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226233" border="0" align="left"/>
What are your favorite shops besides Mohawk General?
Maryam Nassir Zadeh in NY because it's inspiring and not predictable.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043029625_f16b131609_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043029625_f16b131609_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226219" border="0" align="left"/>
I love how you carry a lot of local designer's stuff. What's important when you pick out designers and products for your shop?
A lot of our designers are people who we know or are introduced to so that just kind of happens naturally and it's been so much fun. When we choose a product we ask ourselves if we would wear/carry/buy it ourselves. If the answer is yes then we get it for the store.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043057849_851cd7d5a9_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043057849_851cd7d5a9_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226235" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your favorite designers?
Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten, Marni
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043047715_4101de76e0_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043047715_4101de76e0_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226238" border="0" align="left"/>
Current trend you like, current trend you dislike.
I don't know if it is still a trend but, I've always liked baggy or boxy silhouettes. Like oversize trousers or boxy coats and jackets. Oh, and clog revival has been great, too.
I don't like the trend of people wearing only tights and no bottoms. It looks like they just stopped in the middle of getting dressed..
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043060921_573723718a_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043060921_573723718a_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226240" border="0" align="left"/>
Your store always has beautiful shoes & accessories. Is it tempting to keep some for yourself?
Not really. For me I just love the fact that something beautiful is in the store. But if I do need to shop for something, our store is the first place I look.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043643614_1a428b5676_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043643614_1a428b5676_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226242" border="0" align="left"/>
What is it like to have a super stylish husband? Stressful or helpful? Haha!
All of the above. But it's also fun because we can nerd out about stuff.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043030783_59b6d0d1ce_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043030783_59b6d0d1ce_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226227" border="0" align="left"/>
Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
Almost always have one of the following on: striped t shirt. Black or charcoal cashmere anything, baggy trousers or a boxy jacket.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043645158_fa5f0be8b8_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043645158_fa5f0be8b8_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226244" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your style icons?
Jane Birkin, Chanel, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sophia Copola..basically anyone who is casual but can still be elegant and chic at the same time.

Flats or heels?
Most of the time I am in flats. Sorry but I get cranky if my feet are uncomfortable. But I do love heels because they make you look so good, so I keep buying those too!
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043654570_b8a21515a9_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043654570_b8a21515a9_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226246" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have any items you've been eyeing for fall?
Now that I have a store to buy for I am eyeing things for spring 11! Very excited about next season actually.
But for this fall my main purchases will probably be a cashmere cloak and arm warmers, lace up clog boots, a customized Clare Vivier worktote, and a nice chunky necklace or two.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043664980_07e51c79df_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882660/5043664980_07e51c79df_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4226248" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you keep your old clothes or do you keep your closet small and organized?
I keep too much! I am definitely trying to minimize my closet. The older I get the more I realize it's not really about the quantity.

Heather told me "Jeana, you've got to do Deb's closet.", and Clare said Deb is one of her style heros. Needless to say, I was so curious. When I finally visited her closet, I was like "Forget, Carry Bradshaw!". I was dying over her amazing Marni collection (you all know how I feel about Marni). If I didn't have to do the photo shoot, I would have had spend the whole day trying on everything in her closet. I asked Deb to show me her favorites and it was not easy. There were so many amazing things in her collection that she loves (how do you chose between your babies?!). I loved how she treats them like precious art pieces in a closet and I could see her LUCKY daughters wearing them in 20 years.

Deb was so photogenic and natural in front of the camera. I kept saying "Are you sure you are not a model?". She is one beautiful woman with brains.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082578593_a79b765490_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082578593_a79b765490_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370443" border="0" align="left"/>
Describe your style.
Eclectic and a sucker for drama. I love a big collar, a huge accessory. As I get older, I'm moving towards quality over quantity. And every year I vow to transition to some sort of "uniform dressing", but there are so many beautiful things out there... how can you possibly??

Which Fashion blogs & magazines do you read?
I read The Cut pretty much every day. Wayne Tippets Street Style Aesthetic. I'm also enjoying NAAG, Agyness Deyn's new-ish blog. On paper -- the classics: Vogue, Bazaar, W ...
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082655141_3761f1f00b_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082655141_3761f1f00b_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370445" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have your favorite Etsy sellers you'd like to share?
I hate to give up my best Etsy source but I'm crazy about The Feather Feet Beat. Her shop is listed under "smoobage" -- she has made a ton of feather earrings for me. Her combinations are wild and since I don't have pierced ears, they're also light and comfortable enough to wear all day. I browse on Archive Vintage -- before I was a mom I had lots of time to comb through racks at vintage stores but that's an activity from a former life now.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082657691_6c951b8de6_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082657691_6c951b8de6_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370447" border="0" align="left"/>
What are your favorite place to shop?
Barney's, Creatures Of Comfort ... I dream of going to the new Lanvin boutique in N.Y.C. but it's a very expensive dream so I'm putting it aside for the time being.

Does your little girl play dress up in your closet?
She loves to put on my shoes and jewelry... I'm so reluctant to get rid of things I no longer wear -- I'm saving everything for my daughters. When YSL first launched the Muse bag, you could get it embossed -- I put Keaton's initials on it instead of mine so it could be hers one day. My mom saved nothing, so I'm clearly running in the other direction!
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082657819_6955c44432_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082657819_6955c44432_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370450" border="0" align="left"/>
Which items are your most favorite things in your closet?
My Risto Galaxy dress, a black corseted Vivienne Westwood, and the gold Hermes Medor my husband bought me. They don't produce it in gold any longer so I'm very protective of it. I also have this ridiculously huge Ann Demeulemeester black sweater with ribbon ties that I refuse to part with. It looks like a ratty old muppet and is completely unflattering but it's the coziest thing I own.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082662017_5570f918dc_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082662017_5570f918dc_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370454" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your style icons?
Cate Blanchett, Talitha Getty, Jane Birkin, Loulou de la Falaise
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082662273_75634214fc_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082662273_75634214fc_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370456" border="0" align="left"/>
Current trend you like, current trend you dislike.
Happy to welcome back wide-legged trousers. As far as dislikes go, I'd like to say "to each his own"... but I could live without formal shorts and those dresses that could pass for shirts. I'm content with being able to bend over and pick up my keys without showing everyone my name and address.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082662401_82af83354d_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" width_o="640" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5082662401_82af83354d_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370460" border="0" align="left"/>
Can you give us smart shopping advice?
Can you give me smart shopping advice?
Okay, the only thing I've really figured out is that you needn't buy anything in L.A. until it goes on sale. It doesn't get cold enough to wear winter or warm enough to wear summer until sale season begins anyway... Also if you find pants that look outstanding on you, buy two and have one tailored for heels and one for flats. Leesa Evans, my brilliant costume designer friend, taught me that one!

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5083172582_5b01ae0bf5_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5083172582_5b01ae0bf5_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370461" border="0" align="left"/>
Who are your favorite designers?
Dries, Maison Martin Margiela, Marni, Isabel Marant ... I am waiting not-so-patiently for the Vivienne Westwood store to open. Her clothes definitely suit me. Sadly, I'm always attracted to items that look good on boyish figures (which I don't have) and I don't think I'll ever learn my lesson -- I should probably wear Westwood more often. I also really love Tsumori Chisato, Risto Bimbiloski and I just bought my first piece of Suno. Their prints are really fun... For shoes, I love LD Tuttle, Rachel Comey, Margiela and my Swedish Hasbeens. I have a great collection of Clare Vivier clutches and think Jerome Dreyfus also makes very smart bags.
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5083173930_c5a714462b_z.jpg" width="640" height="427" width_o="640" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/72818/882896/5083173930_c5a714462b_z_o.jpg" data-mid="4370462" border="0" align="left"/>
Do you have any items you've been eyeing for fall?
I would be thrilled to own a Celine luggage tote but it feels really extravagant right now. I'm shopping my closet this fall, to be honest, but ask me again when the Celine resort collection comes in. It's breathtaking!!

Where do you find inspiration for your work.
I eavesdrop, I read a lot of books, I bake. I get a lot of my best ideas in the shower.
