A template of their ‘Swich’ shoe is open to the public for interpretation and the winning design will be put into production and sold at Schuh and Boxfresh retailers. For every design entered into the competition, Boxfresh are giving Teenage Cancer Trust UK £1. To demonstrate the potential of the competition, Boxfresh commissioned artists and designers to produce their own concept of the shoe. Although these buildings are decayed and now out of use, there is a certain beauty and aesthetic that can be found throughout the structures, externally and internally. ‘Desolation’ aims to present that beauty. The journal is produced in an A4 format which uses an A2 poster that folds down, acting as a cover/folder that holds the various sized photography prints inside. Its harmony is apparent in the principles of design that nature uses to give us patterns in plants, shells, the wind, and the stars. The regenerative principle shows up in shapes and solids that form the basis of everything from DNA to the contour of the universe.” – Priya Hemenway, The Secret Code, 2008. Inspired after reading ‘The Secret Code’, by Priya Hemenway, and ‘The God Delusion’, by Richard Dawkins. This project explores the idea of the divine proportion and human existence. The final outcome comes in the form of an animated GIF, aiming to represent the infinite nature of our planet, the mysteriousness of it all and the structure found within the rules of the divine proportion.
