		<description>ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Students learn ballet vocabulary through stimulating interactions with professional dancers who couple modern dance sensibilities with ballet, culminating in a performance opportunity. Technique classes introduce them to the basics of CCBT movement vocabulary, facilitating the development and mastery of dance. Coaching on performance skills, experiences with the process of learning, and exposure to professional staging of dance works are also provided.

PERFORMANCES
CCBT presents an evening-length dance performance filled with select repertory works. It’s a paramount way to view exciting contemporary ballet. Our extensive range of repertoire is sure to engage any audience.

DANCING IN THE SCHOOLS
In schools we present a forty-five-minute interactive, fast-paced, and educational program with narration. The presentation begins with a brief overview of classical ballet, narrated and illustrated by the talents of CCBT’s professional dancers. Students are then guided through an exploration of basic theatrical elements, which are essential to the development of classical dance performances. Additionally, students are offered a first-hand look into the creative processes used to create choreography followed by a brief company performance and a question-and-answer session.

MASTER CLASSES
Using ballet, modern, and jazz movement to expand their dance vocabulary and natural abilities, master classes are led by CCBT artists and offer students the opportunity to explore new ways of moving. One of CCBT’s goals is to use dance as an outlet to improve self-confidence and enhance individuals' self esteem.

<description>James Atkinson, Artistic and Executive Director (Learn More)
James R. Atkinson is a native of the Greater New Haven area in Connecticut. He holds a MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and a BFA from SUNY Purchase College Conservatory of Dance. He earned the highest rank in Boys Scout of America, Eagle Scout.

Mr. Atkinson is currently part of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Choreoquest and his company is in residency there. Previously, Mr. Atkinson was the Artistic Director of Ballet Savannah, Oakland Dance Studios, and Resident Choreographer for Burklyn Ballet Theatre.

Mr. Atkinson debuted as a professional dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble. He was subsequently a company member for Ballet British Columbia, Compania de Danza Contemporanea de Burgos (Spain), Sacramento Ballet, Capacitor, The Oakland Ballet and Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre in Boston. He was selected to perform with Ballet Preljocaj during their American tour at Purchase College.

Mr. Atkinson was a soloist with Columbia City Ballet, starring in “Off the Wall and onto the Stage.” He was a principal dancer with the New England Ballet Company. In recognition of his outstanding artistry, Mr. Atkinson was featured in Pointe Magazine (June/July 2005), where he was described as a “powerful presence” by Editor-In-Chief, Virginia Johnson. He appeared on the cover of the New York Times “Arts” section in February 2005.

The art of classical dance is at the heart of Mr. Atkinson’s commitment to the well-being of his community. He strives to study and preserve its history and traditions while expanding its creative possibilities because performing and visual arts are essential to the vitality of any culture. He presents a broad range of dance repertoire and dynamic music which make CCBT accessible and enjoyable for all audiences.

Ballet today is a living art form that is constantly transforming and reinventing its boundaries. CCBT’s style of movement looks very different from traditional ballet although Mr. Atkinson’s choreography originates in classical ballet. CCBT repertory investigates new ways to use the classical ballet technique: it expands the dancer's physical abilities and pushes the bodies of classically-trained dancers beyond their familiar limits. By bending the lines of bodies and choreographic composition, James Atkinson opens new space for creative expression and sharing of personal ideas and emotions.

Jamie Wignall, Senior Director
Jamie’s professional career began as a member of the children’s cast in both the Los Angeles Chamber Ballet’s and Joffrey Ballet of Chicago’s Nutcracker ballets. She later joined the Tremaine Teen Company headed by Margureite Derricks and Michael Rooney. She attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), and, while there, was invited to perform on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, as well as being in the LACHSA dance ensemble. She has since performed in the 10th Annual American Choreography Awards and was invited to be in the UCSB Student Dance Company, and NYU’s Tisch Dance Second Avenue Dance Company. Jamie graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BFA in dance in June 2006, at which time she joined the Regina Klenjoski Dance Company (RKDC), Fusion Dance Theater and Earthwalk Dance Company. In May of 2011, Jamie graduated from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts with an MFA in dance.
