I know. I shocked myself too. But it was a great experience! As part of our photojournalism class we were sent to document an event for a photo essay. So I followed my ceramist friend prior to and during the Vancouver Eastside Culture Crawl, a huge annual arts event where artists open their studios to the public. This publication—a magazine—would provide authentic stories and create dynamic cultural discussion from a faith perspective that would impact the lives of their future readers. This magazine would be called Converge. I joined the project during Christmas break in 2010 under the pretense that, in two weeks, I would set up a template—a basic layout for a 68-page full colour magazine—that could be revisited issue to issue, 4 times a year. Needless to say, by the end of the two weeks I joined the team. Two years and 11 issues later, we are now a full-time staff of three (founders Shara and Jeremy, and myself), a network of several talented contributors in both the writing and visual field, publishing Converge magazine bimonthly, reaching out to over 4000 destinations across Canada and trickling into the States on the west coast. For now I am responsible for the layout, ad copy management, visual outreach, arranging photo shoots, online branding, and various other creative contributions such as illustration and photography. They vary from 8ft - 14ft in both height and width and are located in Surrey. See if you can find them! Lest We Forget 2005, by Hwy 10 & 176th This was co-designed by three students and myself and painted by a team of 6 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of our heros of WWII. Surrey School Board Centennial Mural 2006, located in the Surrey School Board building Painted on 5 (approx) 9ftx4ft plywood, this mural was designed by me and painted by a team of 4 to celebrate the Surrey School Board's 100th Anniversary. Olympic Banner: Gold Metal Game 2009, in City Center/SFU Surrey Campus During the summer before the Winter Games hit off, a series of 6 'Olympic Banners' were created to be auctioned off. Each banner was individually designed and painted by its respective artists. The central hockey player was to remain as neutral as possible, not symbolizing any country in particular. *Portrait credit on central hockey player goes to Angela Lin Bell Center of Performing Arts Mural (1/2) 2009, Bell Center A two part mural was created for the Bell Center of Performing Arts in Surrey. There was a horizontal and vertical mural.
