Duración del trayecto: 5 horas 30 minutos. El evento levanta una gran expectación. La prensa local proclama “Los Pirineos ya no son una frontera”. En el mismo instante en que arranca el tren inaugural, dos personas miran su reloj, hacen una fotografía y empiezan a caminar. Una sale andando de la estación de Vilafant (Figueres) hacia París. La otra sale de la Gare de Lyon (París) hacia Figueres. Van equipadas con una brújula, un cronómetro y una cámara fotográfica. Cada 5 minutos las dos personas realizan simultáneamente la misma acción: se detienen, hacen una fotografía frontal del lugar donde se encuentran y siguen caminando en su dirección. El ejercicio se repite durante 5 horas y 30 minutos. Una vez el tren llega a su destino, las dos personas dejan de andar y dan por concluidos sus recorridos. En todo este tiempo han avanzado, aproximadamente, la distancia que un tren de alta velocidad recorre en 5 minutos.” Con este texto se introduce el libro ‘Figueres-París: 5 horas 30 minutos’ editado y distribuido por Bside books (edición limitada de 100 ejemplares) y financiado por las IV Becas Agita del ayuntamiento de Figueres (Girona). El trabajo partió del habitual enunciado que afirma: “Las distancias son hoy temporales”. Para ello se decidió tomar la nueva ‘distancia’ Figueres-Paris, de 5 horas 30 minutos, y devolverla a su estado primario caminándola. El resultado final fue una exploración del territorio improvisada (pautada por una dirección preestablecida y un uso del tiempo acotado) que nos sirvió para comparar dos entornos urbanos sumamente distintos. La simultaneidad de la acción permitió además una interpretación más performática y caprichosa del ejercicio. Mientras realizábamos nuestro doble recorrido, me gustaba pensar que en realidad, lo que Pere y yo estabamos haciendo, era fotografiarnos el uno al otro (cara a cara) simultánea y repetidamente desde 900 kilómetros de distancia. A pesar de ello, y más allá de otras posibles interpretaciones, el principal objetivo del trabajo estaba muy claro. Se trataba de confrontar dos modos antagónicos de interaccionar con el territorio: La fugacidad y La presencia. (english) December 19th 2010. The first high-speed train between Spain and France departs Vilafant railway station (Figueres, Spain). Destination: Paris, Gare de Lyon. From now on, the 900 km. between Figueres and Paris will be done in 5 hours and 30 minutes. That same day, and from those same railway stations, two people started a simultaneos walking action. At the exact moment when the inaugural train departed, Pau Faus walked out from the Gare de Lyon (Paris, France) and started walking towards Figueres. At the same time, Pere Grimau walked out from Vilafant railway station (Figueres, Spain) and started walking towards Paris. Every 5 minutes both repeated simultaneously the same action: they stopped, they made a frontal picture of the place they were at, and they continued walking on their direction. The new temporal distance between Figueres and Paris framed the length of this double journey. 5 hours and 30 minutes later, when the train reached its destination, both walkers took their last picture and ended the journey wherever they were. During that time, each of them walked approximately what a high-speed train travels in 5 minutes”. This text introduces the book ‘Figueres-Paris: 5 hours 30 minutes’ edited and distributed by Bside books (limited edition 100 copies) and funded by the IV Agita grants of Figueres (Girona). This work started from that usual statement that claims “Time is today’s distance”. Our project took the new 5 hours 30 minutes ‘distance’ between Figueres and Paris, and returned it to its primary state by walking it. The end result of this action was an improvised exploration of the territory (framed both by a predetermined direction and use of time) that allowed us to compare two very different urban environments. The simultaneity of our action offered also a performative interpretation of the exercise. While we were walking, I liked to think that what Pere and I were really doing was to photograph each other (face to face) simultaneous and repeatedly from 900 km. Despite this, and beyond other possible interpretations, the main objective of the project was very clear. (english) The man creates dysfunctional and entropic spaces during its landscape construction. Their own story has displaced them from the cause-effect line, dooming them to an eternal defeated present. Carlos Albalá & Ignasi López go through these places and represent them in a sort of emotional topography, creating emotional links with only exits for itself landscape which produces monuments with a maximum degree of iconicity. Fault began when I moved to live in Alcorcón, a south-west town on the outskirts of Madrid. For the last 3 years I've been wandering through the interstitial spaces that connect this population with Madrid. The main entrance is a straight highway that crosses the whole territory, leaving spaces at the edges and a configured experience as a result of ofterritorialization and deterritorialization. To document in an intimate,a personal idiosyncrasy and identity of spaces that were not relegated to be places, but instead, have their own bond and identity, their own sense of place through its micropractices and microoutkirts.
