CART IT // MOBILE APP

Cart It is a mobile app that allows users to scan items as they shop for groceries, and in turn, receive tips and recipes based on their shopping habits. Users are able to view purchasing stats and star their favorite tips and recipes. Call it a smart personal grocery shopping assistant, if you will.

DESIGN PROBLEM
The process of grocery shopping can be timely and inefficient. Shoppers often look up recipes and prepare lists beforehand then spend time locating specific items at a grocery store. This process can be inefficient for small families or single people where buying certain ingredients in deterred because of quantity and fridge life.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Early 20s to mid 30s, college students and working professionals who...
A) Buy groceries for just themselves or their small family
B) Do not have much time to look up recipes and prepare ingredient lists beforehand
C) Look to get most out of their favorite ingredients

CHALLENGES
How do users effortlessly scan and enter items as they shop for groceries?
How are users notified of new tips or recipes during a shopping trip without disrupting the process of entering additional items?

SOUND BITE // POSTER

The Sound Bite exhibit at the Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco is a hands-on experience of hearing sound through bone conduction. An on-site study was conducted to observe how the audience approached and interacted with the exhibit. The redesigned signage needed to appeal to all ages, be read from a comfortable distance and should enhance the hands-on experience.

This redesign takes an analog approach to typography as the focal point. A worn-out dimensional effect was created using multiple layers of transparency paper. Sandpaper was used to scrape away toner from the transparencies using different motions on the type. The effect created a vibrational movement used in the main heading of the signage.

MODUS O // PRODUCT DESIGN

Altitude is the extent or distance upward like the childhood nostalgia of building with blocks and legos; it's the feeling of excitement and accomplishment. The interchangeable furniture modules and accessories in the MODUS O product line take an intuitive human relationship. A single furniture module is used interchangeably like a child building with blocks or legos. The sound of the wood dropping into place and the texture of the fabric creates a foundation where personal items and memories can be shared.

MODUS O uses simple materials in creating products that are not only intuitive, but adaptable to lifestyle needs. Much like the childhood nostalgia of building blocks and legos, the product line celebrates play and the creation process. The MODUS O product line includes interchangeable furniture modules, patterned module covers, panel curtains and pillows.

RETROFIT // MAGAZINE

Retrofit Magazine targets the creative class in an immersion into San Francisco. The concept of this issue is retrofitting Chinatown. Throughout history, San Francisco has adapted to remain innovative and at the leading edge. Today, Chinatown is building upon its past as a proactive environment where the creative class can thrive. “The New Face of Chinatown” represents the neighborhood where the reader is submerged in a sensory experience of sight, sound, taste, smell and touch.

The modular grid used at varying sizes creates a contrast in imagery and text. Images encompass the spread at different sizes, while text is used at different column widths for emphasis. Color is controlled throughout the spreads where select images, text and visual punctuation are emphasized.

VINTAGE TOURNAMENT PLAYING CARDS // PRODUCT DESIGN

Utilizing the four French suits of clubs, hearts, spades and diamonds, this series of playing cards are a modern day interpretation of vintage colors, stripes and typography. The face and number cards work in a system to be easily identifiable among the deck.

The suits are divided by a warm or cool color; clubs and spades are in teal and hearts and diamonds are in orange. The direction of the stripes change according to color and, in the face cards, the stripes vary in thickness to emphasize the change in direction.
