		<description>021Tehran is a set of five booklets, each exploring the city from a unique perspective: transpiration, the visual clutter, the natural surroundings, politics of space, and construction. Having photographed Tehran extensively these photo-books with minimal commentary present my personal reflections on the multifaceted city that I grew up in.

		<description>In this lecture and at Noor Cultural Centre in Toronto I recounted historic traditions of calligraphy and picture-making in Iran and illustrated its connections with the contemporary graphic design scene. A selection of posters from GEN X exhibition, books, magazines and other printed material were on display.
The event was produced in collaboration with Andreea Muscurel.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/21995/881382/IMGP2345-2.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="445" width_o="760" height_o="505" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/21995/881382/IMGP2345-2_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;
Introduction to the lecture:
Iranian Graphic Design has gained unprecedented international acclaim over the past decade. A rich and varied history of visual creation and well rooted traditions of calligraphy are among the factors that lend the contemporary scene in Iran its unique features. Overlap of traditional and modern practices provides designers with a rare opportunity to absorb and re-express the immediate past that surrounds them. Creating contemporary work that reflects upon its history and meaningfully acknowledges its predecessors -like any decent apprentice in the east should do- seems to be the grand work that lies ahead.

The new generation of Iranian designers, now younger than ever, is well connected to the rest of the world and aware of the context their work is viewed in. Given the political and social events that inevitably frame the works of Iranian artists, it is fascinating to discuss what is demanded of the artists nationally and internationally. While the young Iranians seek the their new identities the rest of the world seems to be falling behind, demanding to see more of what it is used to.

		<description>In 2008 I took the initiative to bring three substantial collection of works by Iranian designers to York University in Toronto. The exhibitions were on display at the university from March 14th to April 4th, showcasing over 150 pieces, ranging from iconic works of the first generation of Iranian designers to works by young emerging talents.
The exhibitions were accompanied with lectures by Professors Michael Renner and Gregory Vines from Basel School of Design and a full-day workshop by Majid Abbasi, visiting Toronto in time for a retrospecting of his works as a part of the events. For more information and samples of work visit the event website.

		<guid isPermaLink="false">982819</guid>
		<description>Shelf is a concept for interfaces in immersive virtual environments. The interface aims at incorporating cognitive patterns of users. It draws upon principles of spacial cognition and mental maps to allow for organizing data in three-dimensional spaces.

Concept illustration&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/21995/982819/preview.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="503" width_o="670" height_o="503" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/21995/982819/preview_o.jpg" align="left" /&#62;

At the core of this concept is acknowledgement of the user as a social being. Therefore all data is mapped in reference to the users' social networks. In this paradigm every piece of information is directly or indirectly connected to at least one person. Accessing data in the context of our connections makes the information more relevant to real-time situations and provides a better platform for collaboration.

If you find this research interesting please do get in touch with me as this is an ongoing project.

Over the span of two weeks we directed creation of communications materials to inform other students about human rights issues and inspire student-led action. Discussions around self empowerment using new media and Web 2.0 as tools of advocacy were integral to these workshops.

		<description>Project Wildfire engages Toronto’s youth in the process of creating a successful social enterprise. The project is a coordinated effort among some of the most forward thinking institutions in the city; the Centre for Social Innovation, Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Ryerson University’s Entrepreneur Institute, and Filemobile Inc.

I facilitated three participatory workshops with a youth focus group, and worked closely with project partners to create the name, graphic identity, website, and print collateral for the project.

Project Outline
In the course of the project participants will learn how to develop a compelling business pitch which will be entered in a contest. After a mix of public voting and jury selection, the 1st round winners will work with a business mentor team to turn their idea into a solid business plan. After the 2nd round, the grand-prize winner will receive $25,000 in funding to launch their idea, and 4 runners-up will receive $2,500. All 5 winners will receive 1 full year of business support and mentorship with an experienced mentor team.

The Process
To arrive at a versatile design solution in line with the four institutions involved, and more importantly in tune with the project's diverse audience, I guided the project partners through a series of activities and written exercises to develop unified vision and mission statements. Mind maps, point-of-view analogies, future-casting, case studies and questionnaires were among the methods used.
