Three-time grammy winning producer Devo Springsteen asked me to come up with a low-budget music video for the band Riot in Paris.

I proposed an interactive music video using YouTube annotations shot entirely on an iPod Nano. This was done in 2009 before anyone had used annotations in a music video.

Directed by Skinny, it's an absurd day in the life of Pete and Mercy, the two guys who make up Riot in Paris.

Sonos Playground Deconstructed is a site-specific installation in the Nam June Paik / HBO Production Lab at the Museum of the Moving Image. It is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Spectacle: The Music Video.

The installation aims to bring minimalist art to life as an immersive music video environment. Inspired by the wall drawings of Sol LeWitt, Sonos Playground was originally installed in a 250 sq. ft shed at the Sonos Studio at the 2013 SXSW festival. At Museum of the Moving Image, Sonos Playground Deconstructed has re-imagined the experience using five detached walls suspended above a reflective floor. Each of the walls has been painted with 27 1-inch wide white lines and 26 2-inch wide black lines. By mapping the white lines set between black lines we were able to achieve the unusual contrast you see here.

Visitors are able to select any song from an iPad running spotify and watch a visualization of the music projected onto the surrounding walls. Through motion-capture technology, visitors can interact with and manipulate the animation through movement.

Open through June 16, 2013

Drawing inspiration from the new Sonos Playbar's ability to flood a room with massive sound and Sol Lewitt's geometric wall drawings, PLAYGROUND is a site-specific installation that brings minimalist art to life as an immersive audio-visual world. Commissioned by Sonos Studio for SXSW 2013.

The installation allows visitors to play any song and see it visualized across the walls and ceiling of a 250sf shed. As they walk inside their motion controls the nature of the visualization.

This is a test of the animation for projection mapping. It is a visualization of the track PARALLEL by Gary Gunn.

I was brought in by Obscura Digital to create a large-scale transmedia initiative around the main theme of the film. The project is a great mix of new technology, cause marketing and multi-platform storytelling. Looking forward to share this as is comes out.

Six Scents Series Three is an exploration into the nature of childhood memories and the influence of adolescence on identity. It is also a commentary on the billion dollar beauty industry's obsession with youth and the price we pay to maintain it. Six designers from six different parts of the world have been invited to remember the most definitive experiences of their youth that led to their sense of identity today and to recall some of their most intimate childhood memories involving the sense of smell. Exploring the stories from one through six, innocence begins to fade and rebellion, reality and mischief kick in. In addition, a group of contemporary artists have been invited to interpret the progression from innocence to experience through film. A portion of the proceeds will go to War Child International (warchild.ca) in support of children who have not had the good fortune to experience the same freedom of childhood and adolescence.

All art direction and design was done by my friends at 3 Deep.

"Dom, 13. Savannah, 16 By Lucas Michael" is a video portrait of two teenagers. By documenting their rooms, possessions, physical expressions and individual personalities the film captures their respective take on life while exploring the details of current technology and pop culture with a tension relating to the battlefield and time and memory reminiscent of the qualities of perfume.

"At their most compelling the creative arts go deeper than the aesthetic brilliance of a beautiful painting or the auditory indulgence of a superb sonata. They explore the boundaries of our perception and the intersection of our senses, our emotions and our intellect. And we do not normally think of fragrance or the olfactory world as a typical playground of such ambitious art. But experimental project Six Scents is working hard to challenge this assumption" - Maria Popova, Editor. brainpickings.org

Exploring the idea of nature as muse, we created Series Two as a multimedia and multi-sensory collection to spread environmental awareness and preservation through experiences of nature as a symbol and source of all creativity.

I worked with three different artists to create experiences that would represent remembering, feeling and seeing.

Flashback by Marco Brambilla, a film which examines how a person might remember each fragrance experience, 'Subliminal' by Justin Edward John Smith, a film and photo series that explores how someone may feel emotionally while experiencing the story of each fragrance, and 'Contact' by Azuma Makoto, a series of botanical sculptures that portrays what might be seen in the natural environment.

Basketball Performance Art for Nike

Nike Basketball planned to launch the Hyper Elite Platinum, a collection of uniforms for the top 8 basketball programs in the NCAA. They came to Obscura Digital for ideas on how to do it. I presented the idea of an augmented basketball court that let you see into the future of college basketball by projecting optical illusions that real players would interact with. Eight distinct worlds each representing an alternate universe inspired by one of the universities that a high school player would accidentally stumble upon. As the high school kid jumps from one world to another, players representing each school come out and save the teen from ominous situations with monster dunks. Nike loved the idea and we went into production.

To bring the idea of an augmented basketball court to life we built a set with two walls, each 15 feet high and 30 feet long. We also created a custom flooring that was 30 x 30. Lastly we built a custom backboard and rim. This 1800 sf space would become our canvas. With projectors and cameras all rigged above the stage we projected a live show on January 25th, 2012 for a packed theatre full of New York City press. The press-only event was the first of its kind... a three-dimensional interactive game world where real players dunked over alligators, landed in hell, flew through wind tunnels and dunked so hard that all the leaves of an entire forest came falling down.

All press were seated just a few feet back on the left and right side of the point in the foreground. This area was the sweet spot for the 3D optical illusion.

The project was completed from start to finish in about one month. All of the images you see are from the live show.

One of the press in attendance described the show as "Basketball Performance Art."

Hope you enjoy.

Going into the World Cup we knew all the other sports brands would create epic campaigns. Big productions, big promises, big call to actions. We also knew many other non-sports brands would be jumping on the bandwagon with all sorts of humor and caricatures. After all it’s the biggest sporting event in the world. So we decided to do what no one else could.

Be honest.

We created a simple message inspired by a true story.
Our team spent weeks on the ground in Africa shooting with stars from Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Algeria and Egypt. We shot with kids no one has ever heard of. With families, taxi drivers, people hanging out in tiny African pubs. And we told the story of people and football. A love story of sorts, showing Africa’s relationship to football and revealing the purest love of the game.

“Journey of Football” follows the players and fans of Africa as they gear up for the world stage.
