<description>How does an image form? Specter utilizes exquisite corpse techniques to explore the process of perception in the human mind. Inspired by John Cage, the animators first created a visual and aural score to represent the movements of the film. They then 'performed' the score visually through animation using a multi-plane setup, cut-outs, clay, and other under the camera animation techniques. The process was spontaneous, but directed by the score. Similarly, the animators performed sounds designed to sync with the aural graphic score.

<description>The film Echo gets its name from the process from which it was made. It was made by creatinga frame by frame animation of paintings and drawings on the same 64 sheets of paper. After completing the 64th drawing, the artist continued the animation on sheet 1, thus one can see the process by which the film was made.

The project is also an echo in terms of its sources for inspiration. Initially, the artist was inspired to make a painting based on a piece of music. She then gave the painting to a musician to interpret it in the form of a song. Upon receiving the music, she created an animation that responds to the music. The result is this film, Echo.

<description>Shape Dance is a work in progress collaboration with Louis Morton. It revels in the simplicity of color and form. The images below are from the second half of Shape Dance, directed by Amy.

Shape Dance, 2011 from Amy Lee Ketchum on Vimeo.
"Shape Abstract" is an homage to Harry Smith. The work was animated to the song, "Boongatanyon" by Son of P.M. Pieces of "Shape Abstract" form the interludes for the tentatively titled work in progress, "Shape Dance".

<description>In 2007, I participated in a collaborative performance entitled “Three Day Love” at the Hotel Reichspost in Berlin. For the performance, my collaborator, artist Stevie Hanley and I holed ourselves up in our modest hotel room for three days, conducting simple rituals like meditating, spilling our secrets while sitting in a dark closet, and making artwork spontaneously.

We allocated only four hours of sleep and a one hour excursion per day, usually to get food. The project was meaningful to me as an experiment in pushing my limits, physically and productively. It was a cathartic event intended to see what could be produced without pre-planning in a vacuum sealed from art theory and social pressures.

<description>Awakening is a short film utilizing paper animation and digital techniques which follows the journey of an individual seeking to realize her true form.
The audience watches the heroine travel through paper forests, painted skies and glittery pools, and becomes spectator to a dream-like ceremonial dance that inaugurates her transformation.

Told in the manner of a Busby Berkeley dance number, the film explores themes of metamorphosis and life beyond earth while celebrating the wonder of human bodies moving in geometric harmony. The transformation in 'Awakening' refers to a metaphor for both the spiritual transformation we can experience in life and the physical transformation we imagine that is possible through death. Thus 'Awakening' can be seen both as a rite of passage in life and a ritual of passing. However ultimately it an expression of joy towards the experience of living and a reconciliation with mortality.

<description>The Seven Seals series is inspired by the psychidelic and apocalyptic imagery of the Book of Revelations. The artist drew from visionary works by William Blake, Hieronymous Bosch and Durer for inspiration as well. They were made with cardboard, paint, doily, and Crayola Color Explosion Paper.
