A typographic system is used as a means to portray the heightened emotion and level of stress different events within a family separation will cause. The higher on the stress scale an event is, the more warped the text becomes. This makes the text increasingly hard to read, and mimics the warping, changing and unpredictable nature of grief. This is also reflected in the process in which the warped text was created. By distorting the text on the photocopier, not one result is the same. This means that every page in the booklet is unique, which further emphasises the fact that everybody's reaction to grief is different. This project aims to open up the channels of communication between parents and children during this distressing time. Based on the ISTD Brief on Fakery. On April Fools day in 1977 Britain's Guardian newspaper ran an article promoting a tropical island named San Serriffe as a popular holidays destination. Riddled with hidden typographical jargon and puns, the article fooled many who wanted to find out more about this idyllic island. Tweets, quotes, photos and drawings from the one day symposium were transcribed onto a four metre long roll, which badges were then made of for attendees to wear. Fab is an Industrial Design based event bringing in speakers from all over the globe. This project was the brainchild of Julie Jeon and Cameron Richards. We were given two days to create a body of work that expressed something about ourselves.
