Clay records were placed on animal trails in the mountains surrounding the city of Kyoto, Japan to collect the footprints of wild animals. Events such as animal activity and weather conditions were recorded into the clay. Each record has its location and date printed on its cover and label. The records can be played on a specially adapted turntable which translates the unique surfaces of the clay disks into sounds sampled from the surrounding areas. Controls on the turntable can be used to further manipulate these sounds.
