DCA and BWI have metro stations that can then get you into the city. Travel within DC/MD While having a car can be very convenient in the city, parking can be difficult and expensive, so we encourage guests use public transport as much as possible while here. Our hotel blocks are near the Red Line Metro, and within Bethesda itself there is a free circulator bus. We are also going to provide for free shuttle to/from the wedding venue if enough people need it, and will have maps and brochures galore awaiting you when you arrive! The ceremony will start at 4:30, and the reception will start at 6pm. We've got until 11pm to drink, eat, and dance the night away! For out-of-town guests staying in Bethesda, we hope to have a shuttle pick you up at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda (See "More Info") at 4pm and take you home at 11:15pm. Please let us know if you'd be interested in this option when you RSVP. A history lesson: The 40 acre property dates back to a 1699 colonial land grant. In the late 1920’s, John Russell Pope, prominent architect of the Jefferson Memorial (one of the places Yana works!), National Archives, and National Gallery of Art designed the house for Captain and Mrs. Chester Wells as a typical example of neo-classical Georgian Revival architecture. The Wells family donated the property to the Audubon Naturalist Society in 1968, whose mission it is to encourage DC area residents to appreciate, understand, and protect the natural environment through outdoor experiences, education, and advocacy. We believe in this green mission as well, which is why we are working at making our wedding as socially and environmental conscious and sustainable as possible, and we hope you can support us in this goal! They became platonic best friends and then attempted (and failed) to date junior year of high school after a romantic trip to an anti-war protest in Washington, DC (we were fated to live there!). They finally got together at the end of senior year when Alex pulled out some old school moves of asking Yana to prom in front of an entire math class with bouquets of daisies and then hosting a bake sale in her honor (if only youTube existed then!). They went to prom and graduated together but then separated to different colleges, Yana to American University in D.C and Alex to Drexel University in Philadelphia. Two years later Alex ended up moving to D.C and finishing his education with an Associate’s degree from Montgomery College in photography and a Bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Maryland, with Yana receiving a Bachelor’s degree in international relations with a minor in history, as well as a Master’s degree in museum studies this year from Johns Hopkins University. After five years, four more city apartments, two more long-distance stints of Yana in the Netherlands and on a kibbutz in Israel, a move to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the starts of careers for Alex as a freelance photographer and budding small businessman and Yana as a public historian for the National Park Service, Alex and Yana will be getting married just one day to the year that Alex sat Yana down on a park bench in Bath, U.K and asked him to marry her in the area they first took a creepy all-night bus to nine years ago!
