		<description>Prove di stampa
17-22 April 2012
Salone Satellite Fiera Milano, Rho - Pad. 22/24

Prove di stampa is the project presented by Diego Grandi for the exhibition of SaloneSatellite 15th year celebrations.
A print laboratory will be held in a 25 m2 area, a setting made of magnifying lenses, colour gradients and typographic memories.
The space is a summary on digital printing experienced through mutant surfaces: colour shades, defined by different white grids, create an installation based on the CMYK system.
Laminate, ceramic and wallpaper express their possibility of customization and the opportunities of surface design nowadays.

Bob Noorda, one of the great Italian graphic designers (although Dutch by birth) passed away about one year ago. Through his work he created the visual image of some of the most important Italian brands – Eni, Regione Lombardia, Coop, Feltrinelli, Mondadori, to name but a few. Among the industrial and institutional brands Noorda has designed or redesigned stands out that of Touring Club Italiano (TCI).
The exhibition “On the road. Bob Noorda, travelling with a graphic designer” organised by AIAP – the Italian Association of Design for Visual Communication established 1945 – in collaboration with the TCI - wishes to pay a tribute to Noorda by exploring and exhibiting the major work he produced for the TCI. The project includes two parallel exhibitions which will be set up, respectively, at the Aiap Gallery in via Amilcare Ponchielli - Milan, and in the prestigious offices of Touring Club Italiano in Corso Italia, also in Milan.
Bob Noorda started his collaboration with the Touring Club in the late Seventies, called by its president Franco Brambilla after winning a contest sponsored by the Club and open to the best graphic and product designers: the idea was to renovate the image of the Club, starting from its brand. Noorda's idea was to re-interpret the historical logo in a more up-to-date fashion: the bicycle wheel was kept (the Touring Club was established in 1894 as the Italian Cycling Touring Club), though entirely redesigned; the acronym was chan- ged from CTi to the more logical and rational TCI. The collaboration between Bob Noorda and the TCI wasn’t limited to the logo and its applications through the manual, however: the whole publishing and graphic style was redesigned, including the covers of guidebooks and illustrated books and the inside of many volumes. The style was maintained for about twenty years, with the graphic designer feeling very much ‘at home’ in the Milan offices of via Adamello, where he would spend long hours, at times whole days. Noorda’s graphics has characterised the Guide Rosse (Red Guidebooks) since the Eighties and the Guide Verdi d’Europa e del Mondo (Green Guidebooks of Europe and the World), the series Attraverso l'Italia, maps and atlases (the famous Atlante 1:200.000 with the new green cover) as well as many volumes included in what used to be called the Paccosoci (Memberpack) – now Kit Touring – such as Città da scoprire, Città d’Europa and Regioni e mete d’Europa.
Noorda’s work has given an identity to the Touring Club. More than that, he has made it immediately recognisable to millions of Italians across generations.

<description>Twirl by Zaha Hadid Architects with Lea Ceramiche.

Event's Leaflet.
Milan Design Week
2011

This project is a contemporary interpretation of the architecture of the 16th-century courtyard of the State University of Milan, translated and transformed from rigid Cartesian geometries into the linear fluidity of dynamic space.
Adapting to the natural contours of the courtyard and the forces that converge towards its center, the project emphasizes the slope of the arches, creating a powerful vortex of spatial distortion that favors dialogue with the surrounding colonnade.
The development of the complex three-dimensional curved geometries of the installation, starting with the flat ceramic tiles, adds another level of complexity to the whole. Visitors are encouraged to explore the sculptural sensibility and formal dynamic of different elements in which the balanced relationship between solids and voids expresses the project solution. Each individual piece can be interpreted not only as a whole, but also as a captured fragment of a magnetic field. A certain margin of strangeness introduces a stimulus that has evolved between latent force and physical material.

The project consists of planar ceramic labs (Slimtech by Lea Ceramiche), 1 meter wide, cut at various heights, up to 2 meters. The edges follow the elegant flow of the geometry that corresponds to an overall tiled surface of 800 m2. Each panel is composed of two layers of ultra-thin tiles (3mm). For the installation 7 different color codes have been used, creating shadings from white to black. Seen from the side, the various colors give rise to constant changes of appearance, taking advantage of the changes in the daylight and the nature of the curvature. The installation transforms the courtyard into a space that constantly alters its form and color, depending on multiple perspectives. It aligns the deformed grid of the colonnade with the tiles of the pixelated floor, and underscores the shadow of the vertical tiles. A series of fluorescent tubes (Algoritmo lamps specially produced by Artemide, designed by Carlotta De Bevilacqua) spread light from the center toward the edges of the site, lighting the existing architecture and forming a link between the rigid Cartesian setting and the linear fluidity of the installation.

<description>Oltre Dove – Beyond time, where you can see the stars.
–
During Milan design week 2010, DWA Interior Architecture (Alberto Artesani, Frederik De Wachter) with Alessandro Costariol presented a limited edition of objects conceived for a distant place, without technology. Timeless objects that seem to come from a remote future, as if they were archaeological finds. Some preserve memories, witnessing something that has yet to happen and marks a radical change. Others seem to have a function and remind us familiar shapes, then show mechanical incongruities that makes them completely unrelated.
The exhibition includes a handmade carpet, various tools and an installation that reinterprets 14 panels designed by Albert Dürer for The Book of the Revelation of John.
Milan, April 2010

A carpet in the middle of the street. It lies there on the asphalt, as if no one would ever pass. There is a big canvas bundle on the carpet. It looks heavy, full of objects. You look around. Not a soul, not a car, no bystanders. You hesitantly approach the thing.
The cloth is worn, grimy with time. Its corners have been carefully knotted together. No message, no label. Beneath your feet a soft, immaculate surface. Blue, like a summer night. For a second it is like treading the sky. You glance up and down the street. All’s quiet. You undo the knots, and sit down.
That carpet tells stories. If you look closely, you can still manage to hear them. Like a tapestry that has eluded the ruin of days, it speaks of very distant, arcane memories. Things you once knew, but had forgotten. Flights from chaos, falls, rebirths. Stars, fires, silences. Another world, another time. Like that full sack that is beckoning you now. You close your eyes and reach out your hand.
Memory can play nasty tricks. You feel like you’re back in childhood, when objects were mysterious entities, and to make a magic wand a candy cane would suffice. A telescope that may not be a telescope, but a perpetual torch. A curved band with two long cuts in the middle. Is it a pair of glasses? You try them on, smiling. Maybe, you say to yourself, this is the way to look at things. Two mute, perforated disks. If you aim them skyward you see a myriad of stars. They could be sieves, but also planispheres. And then. Strange devices without user’s manuals. Objects you’d say you’ve already seen, but not like that, not all together. Skillful assemblages of valves, caps, propellers, horns, pistons. Mysterious alembics with no apparent function. Perhaps one day they’ll be useful. To catch the shadow of a loved one. To distill tears and make a perfume. To grind up odors in order to eat them. Perhaps, one day.
At the bottom of the sack there is a piece of paper, crumpled into a ball. You were hoping for a message, but instead… The same sinuous lines, the same opalescent symbols on which you are seated. The map of another time. You hear a car in the distance. Like a nomad in a desolate land, you pack up your bundle before it’s too late. You still have the glasses. There is still so much to see.
