Teaming up for the Summer Olympics in London

The London Summer Olympics draws viewers from all over the globe. In the months leading up to the main event, hundreds of athletes compete for a few coveted positions on the US Olympic Track &#38; Field Team. Our friends at Nike asked us to be a part of their Nike Event Center at the Track and Field Trials in Eugene Oregon. We partnered with big-giant to complete the retouching  and compositing of photographed track and field athletes. These photo mosaics were the main component of the event and were showcased on a 310 foot wall at the event center.

What is this?
Want to impress someone at a cocktail party? Here’s the spiel. Our library is a collection of location photography packages created using HDRI (High Dynamic Range Imaging), a technology that digitally captures and allows you to edit all the light and reflections in a scene. Paired with each high-resolution background image is all the scene-specific lighting data required to seamlessly place a rendered product into a real environment.

This technology is used most often (though not exclusively) by the automotive industry to apply realistic lighting and reflections to a virtually rendered car in a photographic environment.

Saatchi LA makes a game out of LIFE!
XYZ LA worked with Saatchi LA to help create the CG content for their multi-pronged advertising campaign to drive millennial attention to the just-released "city" version of Toyota's hybrid Prius it’s all about fun and games -- in this case, Hasbro's Game of Life.

XYZ was there at the beginning, working closely with the talented Saatchi LA creative team, to help create the 3D “Game of Life” main logo as well as all of the 3D pop up bubbles and banners that were used in the amazing and visually forward thinking online version of the game.

The creation of these 3D elements by XYZ are a main part of the online experience, as you rotate around the 3 dimensional city the banners each link to their own unique experience and informative content to help consumers become educated about the benefits of owning a Pruis C.

XYZ was tasked with creating an infinite urban road to demonstrate the idea of running forever in the Nike LunarGlide+ 3. Our photo team spent late nights shooting various cityscapes and urban buildings to construct the infinite road.

The retouching team took the photographed pieces and seamlessly blended them into one urban setting. Wet pavement and rain was added in retouch. XYZ worked directly with both the Product Development Team and the Global Creative Team to help them envision how the FuelBand would be seen around the world. With the Product Development Team we made sure that our 3D images were product correct and that we had a complete understanding of how the fuel band worked and should look. 

After our FuelBand 101 was completed we teamed up with Nike on the creative approach to how the FuelBand would be shown. We created over 25 iterations for concept, placement, color, look and feel and presented those to the creative team.

Once they picked a direction we fine-tuned the details on the band (this is the fun part) and the background color. After our tweaks the Global Creative Director gave us his stamp of approval.In the end we provided Nike with the 360-degree assets that they used across all their chosen mediums around the world for the FuelBand global launch.

We also took the initiative to animate the 3D band and created a piece that highlights the functionality, style, innovation and just the pure coolness of the Nike FuelBand.

It was truly an amazing project and an amazing experience to work with the FuelBand team at Nike and to help them not only execute their vision for this amazing product but to also be a part of something so successful for Nike.

XYZ continued their ongoing work with Nike on the widely popular Nike+ FuelBand. XYZ was asked to create all the imagery for the Olympic edition of the “transparent” Nike+ FuelBand.

This limited edition version of the Nike+ FuelBand was created specifically for the Olympics as an athlete gift and is for sale in a limited global release. Watch out for it on your favorite Nike athletes during the games.Global Creative Director, Nike Running: Joe Stitzlein
